Congratulations on choosing one of the best stunty teams out there. Fairies are an interesting team to play, they combine fast and fragile players (Pixies) with slow and powerful ones (Treemen). They can be a bit tricky to play, but if you use them well, you can walk all over other teams.
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Player Development:
Diving Tackle! it is the saving grace for this team, get it on every brownie as their first skill. It is essential with your ST1. Instead of leaving brownies next to opposing players to hold them up, put diving tacklers all over the pitch so your opponent has to go where you want them to. Get sidestep for them next, and block or guard on any doubles.
I progress these the same way as brownies, but i tend to give them block and tackle rather than guard on doubles as i use my leprechauns to hunt the ball carrier down.
I tend to give pixies sprint and sure feet to maximise their speed advantage, sidestep is good next to keep them alive and stop them from being herded. Block on doubles to keep them alive, but you could always try passblock, as if you ever encounter a passy stunty team, very long legs, combined with passblock could make them good interceptors.
Much like any other stunty big guy, give them block, multiple block, tackle, guard and break tackle. Consider moving break tackle up the list if you roll any valuable +MA on them. An MA4 tree is a sight to behold (I got one :D). Treemen can be very scary, especially when you have 3 of them on the pitch.
In-Game Tactics:
Use your trees to bash the opposition as much as possible. Their ST6 is very useful and once they have multiblock, you can make a mess of the opposing team. Use them to clear a path down one side of the pitch and using your brownies as a screen, get a couple of pixies into the opposing half. Use your other pixie to get the ball and then run it down the pitch, hand off to another pixie and score.
Try not to leave any of your little guys on their own next to any other players. If you get the chance to outnumber them and block them feel free, but be careful, youre weaker than them.
Try not to use throw team mate unless you have to, but throwing brownies to better positions on the pitch is a very viable option as jump up means, even if they crash and go prone, they can still move 6 when they get up.
Use diving tackle to its fullest potential. Spread your brownies out and make it hard for him to progress down the field using a loose wall formation. Use your trees to smash anything that comes too close.
Your pixies provide very good mobile assists, so get a couple of them on the ball carrier and then blitz him with a leprechaun. The strip ball skill is amazing and will get you the ball the majority of the time. Once you have it, a pixie can run it out of harms way.
Throw team mate combined with jump up on the brownies is excellent for ball extraction, even better if you get pass on a treeman. Use it when the opponent fails a pickup roll, or you get Blitz! on the kick off.
The is nothing more daunting than facing an entire half with one or no trees, be prepared as it WILL happen. When it does, use 3 bad brownies on the LoS and keep all your other players back. Use them to harrass the other players and block their paths, but dont get into a blocking match with them. Your objective is to allow them to score as little as possible, but you must also try and have enough stunties left by the second half so you can retaliate once you get your trees back.
I have had horrendous no-tree games, but also some good ones, so it just takes a little bit of luck.
Hope this guide helps, go and spread the word of the fairy!
