(real vampire strategy ought to be tightened up, restructure of some stuff would be cool, any tournament info for FUMBBL ought to be part of the main article. Format of TT tactics articles: title, disclaimer, description of how the team performs in tournaments, rosters and skill choices, tactics, any final notes... link to TB or summat? maybe in a seperate page)
This section is built as a guide to coaching vampires in tabletop tournaments. It assumes that you know and use LRB5 and as such is not directly applicable to FUMBBL gameplay, hopefully it will be handy for anyone wanting to move into the real world tournament scene.
Vampires are a weak tournament team especially when compared to some of the real powerhouses like undead and wood elves. They are notoriously difficult to manage because the team is really lacking in basic starting skills such as block and dodge. Despite their setbacks they are still capable of being a competitive team in the right hands and can be the most satisfying teams to win with. Chose them only if you want a laugh and a real challenge.
Tabletop tournaments vary a bit in rulesets so I cant cover a definitive list of rosters. They all follow a fairly similar pattern though so I can outline some examples for you to tailor to a specific tournament.
Larger starting sums and more unusual skill development options will nearly always favour vampires so you might want to consider saving your first vampire experience for that kind of tournament.
You'll usually get between 1000k and 1100k to buy your team with, however much you get it will never be enough so be prepared to make some cutbacks. I would recomend always starting with at least two vampires but never more than four, make sure that you have plenty of re-rolls because you will need them to compensate for your lack of starting skills. As with most LRB5 teams your least important concern is the fan factor, leave this till last and just spend the
The first roster is one that I used for the grand tournament with mixed success.
~ Skills: two block vampires, kick on a thrall, frenzy on a thrall, and wrestle on a thrall
This roster didnt quite have enough of anything in it, really I would have liked another vampire and another re-roll wouldnt have gone amiss either. The chainsaw is a nice thing to have because it gives you a cheap way to try and even the odds, other teams are likely to only have 11 or 12 players on them so you'll notice the impact of any casualties much more than in other tournaments.
I like to give any skills to the vampires first because they really have the strength and agility to make full use of them, I find that block on a couple of vampires is essential to give you that edge when you're hunting the ball. Kick is another essential, you should nearly always take kick on a thrall once you've allocated all your vampires a skill.
