I was trying to come up with decent proposals for GLN articles in my dinner hour, and thought it might be neat to do a retrospective look at the greatest match to have been played on the site. The article could speak to the coaches involved, we could have a couple of good coaches discuss the main turning points, strategies etc. with a few screenshots from the JBB replayer along the way. I think it would make an interesting read, and it's something I can't remember being brought up before.
Perhaps we can use this thread to put suggestions forward, then maybe run a poll, and I'll write it at the other end.
So - what is the best match you remember speccing on FUMBBL? Why was it so great? Who were the coaches? What were the stakes?
I think in my time, the greatest match I remember is;
Krautrock 0 - 1 Sanguine Savants
in the XFL masters. PeteW and Melmoth were playing really well, and this was no ordinary Elfball. The boots were flying in all over the place, and it was good to see two evenly matched teams play great BB in a big [R] event.
Any advance on that? Some of you longer-time FUMBBL'ers might well remember something great from way back when! |

Ah yes - I specced that one too, it was a cracker. On the list!
Edit: Funnily enough - the match I remember the most and is my favourite that I played in, I lost. So you can lose and have fun! |

Good idea Purp!
Although I've been on fumbbl for a couple of years now, the one game that comes to my mind, is a fairly recent one. The game is from the GL qualifiers. It contains some of the cleverest plays I've ever seen. The skaven were totally outbashed and left completely chanceles... but somehow, with very intelligent use of a couple of guards, these most inferior rats break a very tough cage of orcs and turn the game wide open again. The orcs still looking very tough though. But once again, with very few players, the rats break through the solid defense and win the game. Applause!!!

This game was simply amazing. You should realy watch it if you want to see a great replay.
Was a smack final, I played undead vs dwarves. After three turns I lost the count and my best mummy permanently, but somehow I managed to win it still (with the necessary luck). Killed FOUR longbeards permanently in the proces!
Classic, classic stuff. |

Purp, you should gather suggestions and have a reader's poll or similar. You know, pick your top 10, let people vote on 'em.
Edit: Can I suggest Ireland v Australia in the '91 Rugby World Cup? |

That's the plan, AB.
I'll leave the nominations open for a bit first. Some good stuff coming in. |

I'd like to nominate a particular game, not because of the game itself...the tactics were pretty vanilla, and the game was "meh" in general.....
sadly, the best part of this game will only be remembered by those who spectated, and those who spread the information...
yes...the best part of this game was the conversation ...those who know....know

Well, this wasn't a game of finesse. But a game I had with my old Chaos against an Orc team that was pretty decent, at the time. Back in the day when Ranked was Open. This was pure carnage bliss.

The best games submitted so far are far more interesting and bloody than mine, but I'm quite proud of this one, even if it probably doesn't qualify for your standards:

Probably one of my best in-game performances, anyway. |

A 3-0 win vs dwarves at that TR is surely something to be proud off. Especialy with humans, who generally suck at higher ratings.
Don't see to many people pull this off, so it surely qualifies. |
