Goblin team with a Troll missing the next game. TV is only 870K and can play up to 960K. Anyone have a team to play me? |

...does this *really* need a forum thread?
try announcing politely in the chat. on said page there is also a link leading to a fully pre-configured browser client, you don't even need to download an actual irc client.
Good luck! |

Great awambawamb, except almost nobody is in irc chat anymore.
Why do you have an issue with this being a forum thread?
BenjiRyle, i could trim my skeleton team down to 950 tv if you haven't found a match yet. |

at this very moment, the chat count 37 coaches in the IRC. |

37 clients:
2 are bots
7 (at least) are shells, so no guarantee that users are present
that leaves 29 clients, out of which 2 are marked away, so 27 in total...
...except that out of those 27 coaches only two have said anything in the past 3 hours, a grand total of 2 lines of chat: "does sidestep work if youve been chain pushed?" "yes"

Then on the other hand, it never hurts to stop by and ask. |

In the olden times of many coaches (each of which used IRC all the time), this conversation happened multiple times a day. I think it's a sign of the times that it's happening here. Don't be too harsh.
(Not a misty eyed nostalgia post, I'm not suggesting things were better then. I'm a big fan of the new Gamefinder, even if it has killed IRC) |

ah well, then while we're here, I could really use a match where I play 16 turns with a full team.
vamps are getting blasted every time
chaos dorfs, they just can't stand on the pitch
necros losing key players
gnomes getting bashed and bashed in spite of playing against St1 av6 team
the only match I had the upper hand my opponent conceded in turn 3
don't tell me I have to always accept it graciously, I'd like a share of the pie too.
so bring out some pansy elves and have them fail for 16 turns while biting the pillow, won't ya? |

While the term 'recovery game' can appear certainly loaded, I don't think that's the case here.
Just the usual, I have an annoying low TV stunty team and can't get any matches because no one is activating anything else low enough.
IRC died when the site side support for it caused issues for certain users on different platforms.
No idea if it's been resolved or not, but meh, IRC was always a bit of a mess in my opinion, at least the main channel. Plenty of folks in the league channels though, of course that doesn't help you if you're not in one of those leagues...

I think an aside on 'reasons for the demise of IRC chat' might be the most pointless forum wander I've instigated since, er, the last one, but surely Gamefinder improvements are the primary cause of the downfall of chat?
I am sure there are many factors in play, technical, critical mass of coaches, how annoying stuff like Hydra was to deal with from day one, but if we still needed IRC to make games happen, we'd surely overcome every other issue?
I got a new laptop in February, and I couldn't be bothered to put IRC on. I'm a bit sad about it, since I was one of the few still dipping in and saying hello when on, but it just felt like too much faff for too little reward. Sad times. |

There were multiple contributing factors to be sure.
I recall there being issues with certain browsers and or systems at some point causing a drop.
tNGF was sort of in response that as well? Maybe I am revising history though. |
