Hi! I thought I knew how leap work in BB2020, but the log of a match I played today make me think I actually do not.
I thought that leap skill allow you to add +1 to dice and to leap you have a -1 for each enemy TZ on starting space or ending space, which one is the greatest.
So I thought that if you leap from a space marked by a single opponent in a space marked by 0 opponent with a Wardancer, you would success on 2+, because the player agility is 2+ and the -1 for the marking starting space opposing player is nullified by the +1 of the leap skill. But in this match in turn 7 of 1st half, I did that but the log states I need a 3+.

Why? Thank you for your explanations. |

Hello Gartch, this is the BB2020 Leap formula:
D6 roll - opponent Tackle Zones +1 for Leap skill >= Leaping player's AG
You count the opponent Tackle Zones from either starting or landing square (only the square with the highest number of Tackle Zone is taken into account for purpose of calculating the Tackle Zone modifier). If the starting square of the Leap has 2 opponent Tackle Zones and the landing square has 3 opponent Tackle Zones then -3 modifier is used, it's not a -5 modifier.
Leap skill gives +1 to the D6 roll.
Important! in BB2020 Diving Tackle affects Leap roll, so, beware if you try to Leap from a Diving Tackler.
Diving Tackle gives a -2 to Leap. |

Thank you for your explanations but I still don't understand.
Using your formula:
D6 roll-1 TZ+1 Leap skill >=player agility 2+
So in my example it should be 2+ no? |

I'm unsure but I believe it's because Leap says "Additionally, this player MAY reduce any negative modifier applied to the Agility test when they attempt to...". As the reduction wasn't needed, it wasn't used. Most skills seem to work this way in FUMBBL, like MB isn't used to modify armor roll if it's not needed to break the armor but is instead kept for injury roll. |

Yes, it's like Break Tackle. The skill triggers only if needed to pass the D6 roll. |

Thank you both for your explanations.
So just to make sure I understand correctly, in my example, if I rolled a 2, it would have been a success? |

Wait, now that I think of it, Leap adds +1 to Leap to counter 1 Tackle Zone, but in case there is a -2 or more Tackle Zone modifier.
You can't reduce a single -1 Tackle Zone modifier to 0 with Leap. At least a -1 Tackle Zone modifier will be always applied. |

Ah, but where is it stated in the rules? |

Actually yeah, what MattDakka said.
"Additionally, this player may reduce any negative modifier applied to the Agility test when they attempt to Jump over a Prone or Stunned player, or to Leap over an empty square or a square occupied by a standing player by 1, to a minimum of +1. ", the last sentence being the important one. I just somehow skipped it thinking it meant +1 leap roll being tired and all.
So it goes like this:
0 TZs or other modifiers = 2+ leap
1 TZs or other modifiers = 3+ leap
2 TZs or ... = 3+ leap
3 TZs = 4+ leap
4 TZs = 5+ leap etc. |

Ok thank you very much for the clarifications |
