Yes, and in FUMBBL's case, the Commissioner sticks to official rules. |

As long as we more or less agree, GW will eventually change the bad things that keep coming back among players
Let's avoid the "yes but if there is the situation of the situation of the situation we can use the skill"
It's up to us to make ourselves heard and say NO to skills that are not or very little used |

The new Hail Mary sucks, until you play Bazakastine in FDL. A lot of the fun in this game is figuring out how to win gunfights with your knife, and then your slingshot, and then your very aggressive rubber band game.
Like, some skills are objectively subpar and need to be buffed, fine. Arm Bar was a fun idea but even in the best of cases it's sort of a consolation prize, as bad rolls go. It would probably be better if it also caused the moving player to remain in place on a failure, or something like that. You know, the Iron Hard Skin treatment, but maybe less so.
Others are great on some players, but so situational they amount to "fire this player" on most who could take them. Multiple Block is a great skill on a Block Treeman, a Deathroller, or a Frenzy Big with Block, and on a Multiple Block/Block player, esp with either Frenzy or Grab, Brawler is a game-changer. But most players can't make anything from Multiple Block, and in most cases Brawler is kinda lame. Are you saying we should fire our Block Rat Ogre because he rolled Multiple Block? But he wants Multiple Block, that's why I'm rolling: only Pile Driver is bad on that guy. Similarly, random Thick Skull on a rookie Human Lineman is a waste, but on that same Rat Ogre, it's a happy day.
I think the skills GW should probably improve, just to make them more viable at the best, are Shadowing, Leap, Arm Bar, Brawler, Pile Driver, Very Long Legs, maybe Diving Catch, and about half the Passing list (everything but On the Ball, Leader, Accurate, Cannoneer, and maybe Nerves of Steel is underpowered; of the others, only Dump-Off and Hail Mary can simply be tweaked without major additions). But doing this involves rebalancing randoms. Like, right now, the thing with S skills is that most players who like chucking randoms really really want two of them, would be quite happy with four more, can't roll one, and would fire the player over the remaining five. This is a balancing dynamic, and in a seasonal system it's a lot of fun and works well. If Brawler were better, that would be seven keepers to four dumpers, making a random S skill 16.67% better in "keep or dump" terms.
Dumping randoms isn't a good option: we've seen Paris, we're not going back to the farm. Obviously the new system needs a fix. Going to full price for randoms is tantamount to dumping them, but I think a shift in the ratio to make it closer than 2:1 is warranted. 3:2 seems a little tight, but that's the scale we're working on, so I think 15k/10k for primary and 30k/20k or 25k/15k for secondary is probably best. But then, we need A and B skills, as opposed to A, B, and WTF?!? skills. |

Yes, but Mega-Stars were something optional, they could be used or not, like a toggle on/off option.
Reworking sub-par skills to make them more appealing is a totally different beast. It's a kind of change that the Commissioner will never do. |

Us Matts gotta stick with Christer on this. This is a GW issue, and if you can't live with that, well, nobody will call the Tabletop Police on you and your friends down at the FLGS.
Heh, bootleg Blood Bowl. |
