It’s interesting that 3D stl can be generated from image from text prompt, I didn’t know that was possible

It's very possible and also 3d printing in full colour
is already possible . It won't be too long until 8k+ printers in colour are a thing with Ai Generating (stealing) art to make those sculpts and said sculpts Fully being "painted"...

Sooooo many jobs will be lost ...

progress.. Sad 😞

Colour printers at the minute are only FDM right? which has huge layer lines and not suitable for minis
Resin printers can't do colour

Resin printers can but prices are currently insane... its just a matter of time till they come down though

Just had a look and there's a thing where it has a turntable on a Z-axis and different colours of resin sprayed downward inkjet style and then cured as it rotates and descends
Pretty cool

I like painting now, but only because i've gotten into it
If I was getting into hobby at a point where this type of technology is mature.. I don't know ..

Blood Bowl is the sort of thing where you only need a handful of minis for a team and it costs more to buy a set of paints than it does to buy a team. I have so many paints, probably more than I have minis...

I think the real benefit would be to have minis base coasted
.. all the sections their prinary colours then you cam add the detail you want.. its pretty incredible tech though

The best application for it at the minute imo is for minimal effort minis
(Similar to the AI discussion) it cuts out the bottom of the market, replaces the low end

I'm thinking of board games with minis you're not that attached to
D&D games where you potentially have hundreds of monsters to fight through but without the personal attachment

For a lot of people, their team / army is something they have personal investment in, attachment to, and want to paint to a good standard to represent themselves as a hobbyist and gamer
So they'll try to make it as good as they can

The quality of the mini in this full colour resin printer video I watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvnKH7oHoZw is not that good
Well... I can do better. The non-hobbyists I know couldn't do better

I'm not sure its a starting point for paint, because you'd probably still need to primer it first. It's got some kind of waxy coat as supports which is probably horrible for painting on
And the surface looks a bit rough which probably will look horrible if you did oil washes or streaking grime or other things that'd show up the texture, similar to how they can really bring out layerlines

The trolling is the irony of the academic paper arguing against copyright being copyright protected and behind a paywall.

No trolling.. you're entitled to your point of view. I happen to think you're totally wrong. I'm already seeing the impact of AI in my profession and the number of people losing their job as a direct result. I suspect this will be replicated across all business and industry as AI becomes more "intelligent"... art and 3d sculpting jobs will most certainly take a hit.

Thankfully there will be lots of people that want manually created art works, by human hands. So some will still be able to make a living this way.

Ah, personal experiences! So be it. In my profession I've noticed a consirable improvement in our students work when it comes to their original projects: AI speeds up the creative process by reducing time devoted to menial tasks and by suggesting a number of options that simply isn't possible to achieve in the limited time we have. Ofc there's always a human mind behind it that received a traditional, hands on approach since materiality is a fundamental knowledge tool for a conscious use of digital education, and is therefore able to operate a choice based on this person's know-how.

I still haven't seen a single drummer being replaced by drum machine. And drum machines now have become quite capable.

Don't twist and warp my words, they aren't middle east country borders. And I have better things to do rather than debate if we should go back to the Victorian age when we had to work 14 hours per day and eat bread made with chalk. I guesst Christer can lock or delete this thread since it has derailed even too much from Kondor's attempt to share his creations.

Really??? In modern music I see and hear a preponderance of drum machines...

And while drum machines have their place, and are a tool one can program - I think this is a false equivalence comparing them what AI is already producing and what is to come...

Anyway. I'm out... I despise AI stealing art. Nothing more to say.

I remembered another relevant quote, I thought it was Wilde but it's Balzac:

"Behind every great fortune lies a great crime"

Yes the output of generative AI is sometimes impressive, sometimes useful

But it's a plagiarism engine. What you're refusing to acknowledge is that it's all built on the back of industrial scale copyright infrigement
People putting their work out there did not consent to it, do not get compensated for it, and in future they will possibly lose revenue because of it

Drum machine claim is just lols. The Cure. Fear Factory. Godflesh. and they're not even recent
The Prodigy started having a drummer for live gigs I think

Another edit: I'm still chuckling about this. The sampling of the Amen, Brother drum break is literally the foundation of Jungle and Drum & Bass music as entire genres https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amen_break

Drummers and other musicians have been replaced by DJs spinning records already in the 70es.
Before that there was much more live music on a small scale regionale base for entertainment purposes which generated income for musicians, that was lost when the venue owners switched to dj's because they only had to pay one person instead of a group to provide the music.
Arguably also a band like the chemical brothers would need to pay a drummer for their sound if they could not rely on machines.
Just because you didn't see something does not mean it did not happen.
But anyhow I never said that AI tools were bad, I used them myself, in Artworks that I got payed for, they can inspire creativity. So I agree with you in many points.
But I think we still have to admit that in their creation there was a ruthlessness in the use of the material of others that should not be forgotten and still is the issue of lawsuits.
https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/new-updates/openai-and-microsoft-face-another-lawsuit-over-alleged-copyright-infringement-by-authors-heres-what-you-need-to-know/articleshow/106607853.cms
And that with the rise of technologies societies have to be careful that transitions do not cause major social unrest and therefore good regulation is needed.
If you do not agree with me on these issues so may it be.
