Matt has a point that an automatic 'unsticking' would save work right? I agree too that doing it within 10 minutes creates an incentive for abuse, but what if you automate it to unstick it after, say, a day? Or do it quickly (30 minutes, maybe an hour to allow for a normal delay?) but the team of the non-joiner is blocked for X amount of days? That would save work and still keep a check on abuse.

A day is too much time, 10-20 minutes sounds reasonable to me. 1 hour is too much as well, it's the time to play a game. Ideally I'd love 10 minutes after the no show, because the team could be unstuck in time for the next Box draw. That would be the most efficient solution.
Lately I had to wait for 2 days to finish a game my opponent abandoned.
About blocking the non-joiner's team: it could be harsh in case of odd genuine issue.
The team's block could happen after 3 no-shows, instead.
Anyway, for me the important thing is automatically or manually unstucking my own team without any admin's intervention pretty quickly.
It could be either after 10 or 20 minutes, the important thing is being able to do it myself (either through site or client button appearing like a pop-up message: "Do you want to cancel this game?").
This just for the Box, not suggesting it for League games.

If it doesn't come with penalties ( and I doubt Staff would agree to give a penalty after 15 minutes and post-penalties if it's a temporary ban frankly who cares, I understand you care about points no?)is a tad favorable to abusers: eg. do I see, for example, that my team in Box is associated vs a team (or vs a Coach Wink ) I don't like? I don't show up anyway I know nothing happens to me and there's the automatic unstuck after 10 mins: easy!

The best IMO is as it is today: a clear and fair process that - yes - requires some patience (max 72 hours) if you want to gain points and then see your opponent penalized, but also give reasonable time to people to explain each other (because is the goal of fumbbl Community ... here we are not on Battle Net where matches are generated at an industrial rate Cool ).

1) Cancelling a game which didn't start at all should not take ages. I didn't say it should have no penalties.

2) Getting the win after 3 days due to an interrupted game is a different matter. In that case, the game started, so waiting 3 days can make sense (not for me, but I understand that there is a difference between a game not started at all and an interrupted game with some turns played).

For me, a game should be automatically won after 10 minutes if the opponent doesn't show up or abandons it. This is considered harsh, thus not going to happen (so I actually suggested a penalty after 3 no-shows), but at least being able to get a team unstuck in case of no-show after 10 minutes would be a step forward to efficiency.
The key word is "automatically".
Interaction with opponent and admins should be avoided to make the process quick and efficient.

and exactly how much would it weight on your CR? +1? +2? I argue that is a +0 because no one rolled a single dice.
since a completed game goes on the game list, what score should it have? I guess it's 8-0 as per rules.
which player would get the SPPs?
there's just so much obnoxious AO-lery here, I see FUMBBL's way a safe haven of reason in a sea of blind stupidity.

- In case of cancelled game, no CR points gained or lost by coaches, the no-show coach gets a no-show recorded and a warning. After 3 (the number could vary) no-shows the team gets automatically blocked for a certain amount of time;
- In case of abandoned game, CR points gained like for a win by the non-abandoning coach.
MVP randomized as usual, the 3 SPPs for the bonus TD awarded to a player picked by the winner or randomized. Score is not that important, but I'd say the same as concession score.
