I'm not sure what the URN recruiting rules are, but someday I hope to return with my frogs after their fourth place prem finish a few seasons back. I was sad not to compete in URN then. I would be happy to pinch hit for this one if the rules allowed for it and other teams were deemed too beat up.

Superb start to the season for my Nurgle - a win against Geggster after he advised me to get some claw, and then faced me in almost my next game (the claw worked!), followed by a frankly bonkers 1-1 draw against Cats with more twists than a very twisty thing, and then the dice smiled on me on a grey Saturday afternoon leading to a 4-0 drubbing of Bill. All lots of fun, 3 quality opponents, bring on the rest of the season! Particularly looking forward to the top of the table clash v Purplegoo's woodies...

White Isle Undead Soviet 0 /1 Slann Time 2

Bringing the true path of undead socialism to the White Isle The Commissar began his campaign to glory against the bourgeois cadre of Slann Time 2. A difficult match against a much stronger team but Communist Will was strong. Remembering the dedication of the True Soviets in the Great Patriotic War the team dug deep and held on. A fumble on the line gave the Sons of the Revolution a chance and the ball was picked up. Sadly Zu Enlai fumbled the pass (showing the doubtful loyalty and lack of Undead Soviet Will of the Ghoul Cadre). This enabled the only score of the game.

Prior to the match the Slann Apothecary had been befriended in a honey trap sting operation by Svetlana Pnumatica-hipski and converted to the true path of Proletarian solidarity. He took the opportunity to recruit Grond to the team. The Commissar was pleased at the display of true Proletarian Will by Engels and Andropov both of whom were temporarily injured in this match. The Commissar's scowl was seen to lift slightly and the team were excused the usual encouragement beating that follows a defeat. The NKVD Goon Squad were seen to be unhappy.

Royal Osborne 2 - 0 White Isle Undead Soviet

Royal Osborne are no simple bourgeois coffeehouse frequenting bookworms, they are the creme de la creme of the Upper classes. The Royalist forces were too much in the end for the dead reds.

The first half started well enough for the revolutionaries as for the first five turns the royalist's star Runner Longshanks was kept in his own half with nowhere to go. It looked for all the world like the stall was on but in their excitement the soviet's threw too many men over to the right side of the field. No doubt thinking all dwarves were slow and therefore unable to switch play so fast but Longshanks is no ordinary Dwarf. Faster, stronger and more agile than any dwarf with three turns to go in the half he spied his moment. He saw a gap he could squeeze through and set off on a break down field. After key blocks were made to open up the opportunity by Edward the VIII and Alfred the Great supported by Prince Charles Longshanks shot through across the width of the field and within scoring range. But most crucially out of range of any blitz. Ghoul Zhao Ziyang caught out of position did his best to scramble over and mark the dwarf but it was all too easy for Longshanks to beat the single Ghoul coverage, dodge past and complete the score stunning the Commies. Solid defence by the Royalists on last turn and a half smothered any hope of a quick end of half score for the Undead team. Although they did injure one of Osborne's Blockers.

As the religious royalists prayed at half time to the one true God the atheist Soviets made a show of not publicly acknowledging the existence of Nuffle. And boy was Nuffle not best pleased by the Soviet show of defiance. Immediately on the second half kickoff the kick scattered almost half the field to sit just within range of Osborne near the LOS. It seemed Nuffle had heard the Soviet blasphemy and like it he did not because he was not finished there. Royal Osborne were then given the opportunity of a preemptive blitz. Which was executed with great aplomb getting three players around where the ball would drop. Again Nuffle favoured the monarchists as the kick scattered into the hands of Queen Victoria herself and whilst the Soviets briefly knocked the ball free they could not pick it up as Nuffle went to work again.

It was at this point Royal Osborne played their trump card. Count Luthor Von Drakenborg. For some idiotic reason the Undead Soviet had hired an aristocrat, yes a member of the bourgeois aristocracy as a star player! After a pre-determined signal from the Osborne management the Count fell over in the backfield with nobody around him causing a turnover right at the start of the Soviet's second turn of the half. The Count then proceed to fall over whilst "attempting" to dodge free twice more over the next few turns. Always near the start of the turn ensuring that Undead Soviet would not have any chance to recover the ball. From there the Royals saw out the game for a secure 2-0 victory with Prince Harry scoring the second touchdown on the last play of the match.

Royal Osborne had put the revolutionary peasants in their place, joining Der Great Gobbo's All Starz on the bottom rung of the Division's ladder. Whist the Royalists finish the day for now top of the tree. Just where such a team of such social standing should be. Back to Osborne House for a Royal celebration and offerings to Nuffle! Guest of Honour, one Count Luthor Von Drakenborg for his class solidarity!

((Man it was truly a shame about the second half. The match was shaping up to be a classically tight encounter until Nuffle struck. Shame, hopefully we meet again and can have a whole match like the first half. The second half was pretty much a non event.))

The Commissar was furious. none of the team dared approach him and the member of the Coach Cadre who selected that class traitor Von Drakenburg has been sent for extensive re-education and self criticism in the Lubiyanka. The poor cooaches cries of "But comrade it was either a Count or a Pharaoh" availed him not and the righteous Proletarian Anger of the NKVD rained rubber coated lead justice upon the miscreant.

WIL Gryphon Conference - Season XXXV break down.

The conference is this season a display of WIL’s finest teams, counting no less than four 100+ game teams, with 540 games between them.

With 5 rounds played and 2 to go, the Gryphon Conference is still tighter than Bertha Bigfist’s thong. Five teams are still in a position to, if not win the conference, at least to secure a place in the Play-offs.

White Isle Lizards are still top dog, but after starting out with 4 wins, they took one to the chin last round, losing to The_Demon’s dwarves. Are they ready or will they crack coming up against fearsome Queens Park Raiders next?

Speaking of the Raiders – what’s happening to them? Instead of delivering the deathblow to KFoged’s battered 4 Journeyman High Elves, they went ahead and lost, opening up the conference again…

Opening it up for Har Ganeth Headrippers, looking on form again, after losing the first 2 games and fighting greenskins, also with an impressive 3-0-0 record. They meet in round 6, and that game will decide their fate this season. A draw or loss with end their promotion dreams.

And not to forget WIL to Win, currently 2nd. If not Russo’s norse shows some of the famed norse brutality in their upcoming game, these dwarves get a big leap towards promotion.

And last, not to forget howlinggriffon’s troubled Nurgle, struggling with the effects of a premature promotion. While relegation is a certainty, they look like they have the making’s to make a swift return to the conferences.

Update on the Lion conference - Purplegoo's Wood Elves dominate with their 100% record, leaving the battle for second as the exciting area. I recorded my last game, which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCl4qIPArHk. Not much advantage over the replay function, but I'm trying to draw non-fumbblers in! The WILey foxes seem to be sitting this tournament out, so hopefully my Nurgle have got that win in the bag, which means matteusz's White Isle dogs are the kingmakers as he has me next and then Cyrus-Havoc, so he could leapfrog both of us with 2 wins or with a win and a loss decide who takes second, although Cats and Geggster could also take second if results go their way. It's all to play for in the last couple of rounds of Lion action. Rawwwr!

In the Morien Regional division it was Chunky Goodness vs Hugleik's warriors round 1.

In the pouring rain both sides got ready for the tough conditions with plenty of layers. Suddenly, pretty much as the ball was kicked the clouds parted and left all the players melting. This and the cooking from the chef definitely lowered the Warriors resolve. Still a short kick left the halflings scrambling to cover the ball. Chewing on a leg did the damage early knocking off a lineman. The half quickly desolved into a scramble for the ball. The Warriors struggled to take halflings off the field but the ref helped. A treeman, dried out from the sweltering heat, plunged its roots into the ground desparate for water. Still it took out an Ulfwerener, smashing its head into the ground. The Hugleik's apothecary ran over with aspecial salve. Unfortunately he got the vial mixed up with some poison and only hastened Sigfred's demise. Still the halflings could only move the ball backwards. The other Treeman joined in the fray and broke Gudfred, a beserker's neck. Thankfully with the apothecary underwise engaged he lived. As the half continued the scramble continued slowly moving closer to the halflings try line and further from the treemen. At the end of the half the Norse could finally make a play for the endzone. It involved dislodging the ball from a halfling, making a few dodges before passing into the endzone for a great score. It was misplayed slightly but Nuffle was with them.

In the second half it was 9 vs 8 in the favour fo Chunky Goodness in part due to heat exhaustion and in part becuase the Norse could not get the halflings off the board reliably. Still a treeman was dried up and needed watering during the next drive. The Norse were distracted by the smell of the Halflings lunch time dinner leaving them without a single reroll. The halflings, well fed, took advantage with a well timed blitz. Effectively cutting off the Norse front line from the ball protection. A rampaging treeman bust open the cage and injured a lineman, when the Norse exit strategy failed the halflings swarmed and scored in 3 turns before Hugleiks players could backtrack in time. Suddenly it was 1-1 with 11 vs 7 in the favour of the Halflings and they had both Treemen. The Treemen were obviously tired and dried out. failing on easy blocks, not getting back up and taking root quickly. Without them playing to their full effectiveness there was only so much the halflings could do to dislodge the ball. They did engineer two two dice blocks against the ball carrier but could not manage to take down the tough runner who ran in on turn 8 for a 2-1 win. It was a match were the Norse fluked the big 1d6 rolls and the Halflings did better on the 2d6 rolls.
