On Fouling and Elfbowlin'
Just a conversation I had with another coach, i'll keep it anonymous, they can name themselves if they wish.

<Unnamed> Fouling has it's uses in tactical play, it's important for removing potentially lethal or extremely agile/tactical players, but as a game play mechanic it's open to abuse
<Unnamed> that's my position
<DustBunny> i fail to see the link between fouling and foul language however
<Unnamed> I was never in the foul language argument
<Unnamed> i came in late on that one
<DustBunny> well thats what desult is up in arms about
<Unnamed> nfi
<DustBunny> so i'll let the comment about my " i cant hear you" form of argument slide :P
<DustBunny> because i can acknowledge that position, but as it stands lrb4 is the rules used on this site for bloodbowl, and why should we change the rules that are widely acknowledged as the best iteration yet?
<Unnamed> well you did ignore the arguments about the tactical use of fouling and run with "nobody should ever foul!" which we didn't actually say
<DustBunny> i was running against the fact that you were running with "nobody should ever foul unless its tactical" which is a rules stance that is so full of holes its an artefact in the vatican
<DustBunny> so do you have an alternative to the fouling system as it is, that is an enforceable and valid rules idea? as it is there is a fairly large risk you get ejected for rampant fouling.
<DustBunny> mind you, it has to be a valid rule that can be enforced, and ultimately definitive
<Unnamed> The problem is that there isn't really a solution the fouling system is fine for when you're playing with people you know and general rules of politeness/wanting to still have friends or people to play against stops you from acting like a total prick, personally i think they should have a Fun rating you can vote up or down for people you've played against so you can work out who's enjoyable to play against and who's a joyles
<Unnamed> that way you can still play like a dick within the boundaries of the rules, but be punished by the community
<DustBunny> word gets around
<DustBunny> personally im a huge proponent of name n shame
<DustBunny> and blacklists/whitelists are often used by players opposed to fouling, check players white/blacklists to see
<Unnamed> yeah but it could be intergrated better
<Unnamed> something like Ebay's buyer ratings
<DustBunny> it could be, and thats somehting to raise with christer
<DustBunny> but a change in the rules is clearly the wrong way to go, do you agree?
<DustBunny> and also, while we are on subject, it is possible to be a good sport while killing a team, and it is possible to be a good sport while having your team killed
<DustBunny> seriously, come along and watch some of my games, i cheer for my opponents kills :P
<Unnamed> hmm, personally i try to inflict the minimal amount of lasting harm on a team, because i appreciate the effort that goes into building a good team
<Unnamed> in the same way i don't go to the beach to kick over peoples sand castles
<DustBunny> a persons sand castle isn't competing in a brutal league against your sand castle in which not kicking it won't necessarily not knock it down, as any other action you do with your sandcastle could destroy theirs
<DustBunny> but really, whats the effort of building a team, if you arent building it competitively? this is the typical argument of elfbowling

Discussion ended there, but from what I could gather, there was little in the way of a solution coming from the "fouling should only be tactical" camp in this case. Only suggestion was some kind of publically policed system, which was a major step back from the previously advocated position of "change the rules to stop rampant destructive fouling". Publically policed systems are in place, just ask around with other coaches you know, us foulers tend to know who eachother are, surely the non-foulers can figure it out too?

Also, prior to this private conversation, Desultory, who was originally suggesting a rules change blocked me on main for being closed minded when I challenged his position :P Just threw that in there for giggle value.

Happy Ground-Blitzin' (<3 fouly)

I think it's a sign of a coaches experience(I was going to say maturity, but I don't think that quite applies :D) when they finally accept that fouling is a part of the game. Just accept it folks. One blitz, one foul, per turn.

nice!

i think its a sign of a coahces maturity when they stop prioritising fouling over everything else and actually win some games.

That the heavy foul crowd think highly of themselves is nice though. Everyone should have a positive self image as strong as DustBunnys.

Is someone here allergic to Kiwi?

PC if you actually watched my games I don't prioritise fouling over winning, unless my opponent insists on just lying there for 4 turns.

And for the record, it's not foulers who are being thrown out of Fumbbl for cheating now is it :P
