Cyanide game sucks
Despite warnings, I bought the new Cyanide Blood Bowl game because I wanted to try it out and because I like the LRB5 rules much better than LRB4.

But boy oh boy, what a dissapointment.

The overview of the board and players in the turnbased multiplayer is awful. Just a few examples:

You can't see the entire board, so you have to scroll forward and backwards much of the time.

And you can't see how many SPP your players have unless you set an ugly info-text above every player on the board. And when you do that its hard to click on your players, because you can't click on this text.

And you can't see the log with dice rolls at the same time you have the chat window open. So there was hardly any chat in the games I played.

The different cameras and zoom are funny the first game, but are also completely confusing, so I turned them off.

The game loads sooo slowly, and the pace of the game is also slow because you have to wait for the stand up, dodge and block animations and scoring cutscenes, that you can't turn off.

The graphics is ok, but that helps little when it's hard to tell the distance between players without putting an ugly blue/yellow grid on the pitch, which ruins the cool grapichs.

The singleplayer part is ridicolous, because the AI is so horrible. F.ex. the AI doesn't seem to notice which turn it is, so in turn 7 it doesn't bother to move at least one player within scoring range. And I played a game vs. a rookie skaven team who put 9 players on the LoS when kicking...

And finally the new realtime game is chaotic, have little to do with blood bowl (it's more chaos league in blood bowl skin) and not funny at all IMO.

The only good thing about the game is the good old turnbased gameplay of Blood Bowl - and that is the only thing Cyanide didn't make themselves...

If you think I'm too pessimistic then check this review from Gamespot:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sports/bloodbowl/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;read-review

In short they write that Blood Bowl is a funny game (well, we knew that), but that the menus, overview and technical design of the game sucks. Their conclusion is that only Blood Bowl fans should play the game, which is a wrong conclusion. Blood Bowl fans should stay here on Fumbbl.

And I guess that I and other LRB5-fans will have to wait for the new LRB5 client here on fumbbl. Which by the way already looks very promising. So thanks for the work you're doing on that.

pfffft I dont agree at all i love the new Bloodbowl its so much more fun then playing at fumbbl.com and thats coming from someone with more then 4000 matches played here!

Only thing i can agree on is that its annoying that you cant see your players spps in the match that is annoying, its allso annoying that you cant see your players injuries ( so you can put the niggle on los)

I dont get your problem with the pitch, im not sure why you want to see all of it at once, but its not that hard really you just scroll your mouse wheel back alittle bit and it zoom out.

The single player aint that great agreed but who cares?

Guess there will allways be diffrent ways of looking at things but i for one dont see my self playing much here after the Cyanide release.

Too bad Blizzard is technically a "rival" of GW due to WoW vs. Warhammer Online. I'd have loved to see them make the Blood Bowl game instead of Cyanide. A few weeks work by a couple interns to program in the rules and an interface and a few graphics guys to make the models they don't already have and it would be done. They've already got models appropriate for the majority of the teams.

Imagine fully customizable player appearances and team uniforms, idle animations, funny phrases when you repeatedly click on guys ("what's up coach", "what's up coach", "got a gameplan coach?", "there are other players to click too you know", "listen buddy poke me again and I shove that clipboard down your throat").

Too much to hope for :(

About sums up my experience too.

Thanks for the warning. I'll still be getting it but this stuff reinforces the need to wait for a hard copy or steam.

With the implementation OF LBR here on fumbbl does anything else get changed?

I also find it quite amusing seeing some of the ridiculous skill choices that you come up against in Single Player Mode.

My Lizardmen playing in a Grand Slam competition have just faced a Goblin team that included a Goblin with Multiple Block.

i like it still. easier to get games than blackbox or ranked. that's the reason i play on it.

Thanks for the review - I'll wait until multiple patches/expansions sort it out and save myself the £40 till then.

Cheers.

Almost every computer turn in single player starts with a dodge through TZs. Then the pickup attempt - before any 2d blocks or unrestricted movement. The only TDs against I suffer are from a wood elf catcher or GR catch (in TZ) and a 2 turn score. I have never seen a cage from the computer. On skill choices, I saw a longbeard with shadowing and another with dump off ... and why oh why is the troll slayer on the los when kicking ...

Hi!

I don't agree that the game is so bad. I think the worst thing with the new game is that there is so few teams. Can't wait for them to add more. I must say that the SPP part annoyed me as well but not so much that it killed the whole experience. I really enjoy the LRB5 rules, really cool with some new skills. I also enjoy more that my players die on field then have to retire because of niggling to much when getting new skills.

Just to make it clear I don't have anything against Fumbbl and I still think Fumbbl is much better then Cyanide on lots of stuff but hoping that Cyanide will get better with time.
