You have been away a while :)
The blackbox is what it is. But some coaches thrive with elves....Dolls and his superb Pro Popes come to mind.
However, the box isn't for crybaby dorf lickers that have found their beloved AV9 short arses have suddenly dropped a few pegs on the BB food chain thx to CRP :)

You should play what you like to play and I encourage you to not give up hope. It can at times be painful, but all players are temporary, even with AV 9. Perhaps just more so in the Box.

BB is kind of like stunty mayhem with ordinary teams I guess

I have the same dilemma as you. I was away for a while, and came back to claw/MB/Piling On killer combo.
I feel a little bad about this. I turn down a ton of Chaos, CD teams in ranked, because i want a little variety in my opponents. Since coming back, I chose to play alot of Black Box when returning. I like it, but its playing the same kind of team for an opponent every game becomes really stale.
I also noticed almost every high CR coach has one of these killer teams. Then they brag about being such a good coach, because they can knock all your players off the field. Then verbally rub it in while doing it. Like I said it gets stale, when all the coaches have cookie cutter teams.

I decided not to play. Most people's advice on this subject was "don't play in the box" simple but true. Retired my box teams (to remove temptation) stuck with my league friends, slowly getting back into ranked. Having fun again :)

the only thing one can do is play Ranked and hope that B changes. But as all a lot of B coaches car about is KILL ALL MENS, it isnt likely. Im trying to retire my B teams to remove temptation, but its instantness still sometimes has appeal.

Focussing on ranked and league helped me enjoy fumbbl more. :)

You have 3 options:
a) Give up on the box.
I've mostly given up on it myself, but then I'm an elfballer almost to the exclusion of all else.
b) Just retire any [B] team that has a TV over 1500.
There is some variety to be had in low TV box.
c) Join 'em. It levels the playing field, and you have a good chance to win half of your stale, high TV bash fests.
(I never went for this option)
I mostly went for a, with an occasional relapse into b, myself.

Anyone ever talk about re-balancing the cost of players to make lower AV teams (fast=expensive) more attractive?
Seems like the obvious thing to do to for me...
Posted by pythrr on 2012-01-21 20:18:02
or we could just fix PO with a house rule.
just sayin.

Want a high CR? Play elves in the box. Elves/Lizardmen earn you easy wins against the hordes of clawmbpo ;).

Might I suggest creating 3 or 4 chaos-ish/nurgle-ish teams?
doh, you're well on your way :)

Everyone's opinion is valid.
I think some people "feel" a certain way.
Reality may be slightly different.
Some people run into 10 clawpomb teams in a row, and that's harsh.
But I find enough variety even at 2k.
The thing to remember is that without aging, clawpomb is the new equalizer.
Once you embrace it, you are on your way to enjoying CRP.

Box has some great points about it:
a) Instant games
b) No picking
The downsides are somewhat heavy as well:
a) The easiest way to win is clawpombing, box being the most hardcore div there is this is very evident in the teams that play (3/4 of the top4 in the FC were box bashers as well)
b) Above 1900 mostly teams that survive are clawpombers, which leads to a bit of dullness
There are a lot of valid counters:
a) Minmax like hell, kfoged-styly all lineman amazons, early TV lizardmen, your own clawpombs (definedly chaos is the easiest to build)
b) Do not play tv 1900+, that's where the most active clawpomb teams float to
c) Focus on only a few races you feel comfortable with, and even then have a box specific plan that accounts for clawpombs, valid builds are: Blodging De, Oneturning/Blodging We, Skaven with clawpombs + high tv gutters & bunch of linemen, Lizmen with one block carrier and mostly skills around the sauri, Nurgle bash (takes time to build, mostly faces other clawpombs, but beats them mostly due to reg fa), Chaos/CD/Pact [with 0 big guys] bash (already valid at tv 1300).
d) Remember this: Most of the cookiecutter coaches especially on the lower end of the TV (and CR to some extent)-spectrum, have just the one plan - clawpomb block and hope it works out. If you came up with more than one plan + enough reserves to take some hits then you are advantaged by default.

It's a tradeoff. Take the easy games and play with any team you want, then get stuck with playing the teams everyone else wants to play, too (i.e. psychotic killer teams that would be hard-pressed to get games in an open environment).
I take the good with the bad. These days I'm usually pressed for time and don't see much going on in Ranked at the times I have available to play. Thus, more Box these days. Then again, I don't mind facing multi-clawbomber teams at TV1300. If my CDorfs could roll doubles, I'd be doing it too. ;)
