Sounds like your Black Cup team is gonna get retired.....
Posted by Aries on 2011-07-27 22:57:34
did you have a team retired for not playing to win? or is this a protest based on an incomplete accounting of the full events leading up to another coaches team being retired? were you personally warned? cause ive seen TONS of teams NOT retired for not standing up guys for an entire half/game, or running their guys away for an entire half/game. Team intact, 1 coach in particular has done it multiple times vs multiple coaches, ive been victim of a laydown/runaway, and specced laydown/runaways...
My point is, I dont think its whim. I think it takes quite the extreme cases, and likely serious repeat offenses of extreme cases.
Regardless, Best of luck. I dont think your team gets retired from not playing your tournament games, but pretty sure its a tournament ban involved for all your teams barring extenuating circumstances/permission from an admin.

Generally speaking I am not a scrub. But I am a huge fan of novel and innovative tactics. And find it rather depressing that the site admin have deemed certain novel tactics that are well within the bounds of the BloodBowl rulebook illegal and worthy of severe sanction.
How can I trust their judgment in regards to any other novel and innovative tactics. The answer is, I simply can`t. It`s very sad that they have determined what are the limits to creativity are in the face of a borken rule set.
But in the grand scheme of things, it may be a good thing. If they can house rule everyone`s tactics, they should see no problem in house ruling the current borken rule set to deal with the rather obvious Claw-POMB borkenness. And perhaps something can be salvaged from this whole fiasco...

Aries,
It`s not based on that one incident alone. It`s based on the site inability to respond to various critiques/defense of this tactic by far greater minds than mine. At one point they weren`t even willing to listen to any defense. They just simply locked threads and then went further and tossed any critique/defense down the Memory Hole.
It`s based largely on the sites administration being unable/unwilling to state what will result in a team being retired. Your (and others) experience is conncrete proof of the rather arbitrariness of the admins decision making ability. At the very least, they should publicly address the criticism directed at their decision regarding the limits of peoples within-the-BloodBowl-rules tactics when faced with Claw-POMB or other madness.
Long Live FUMSOC!

And since there seems to be a rather strongly functioning Memory Hole on FUMBBL, here are my comments in response to shadow46-2`s blog:
Speak for yourself. The credibility of the site`s administration has fallen further in the eyes of a significant portion of FUMBBL`s user base. It`s rather disturbing that some of the sites administration either doesn`t see this or doesn`t seem to care

Is this about your all snoling ogre team? It isn't retired, but maybe they got kicked out of the tournament. Atleast that is what i think this is about.
If that is true it is sad. Silly teams should have their chance of glory too.

The limits of some people`s imagination/empathy will never cease to amaze me.

"The credibility of the site`s administration has fallen further in the eyes of a significant portion of FUMBBL`s user base"
You are not a significant portion, sorry.

TheSpoonyBard,
I am not referring just to me. If you read the forums, talk in chat or PM users on FUMBBL, there is a significant portion of the user base who have seen there opinion of the administration diminish. Some have called for flagrant violations of the admin`s decisions. Something that I clearly have not called for. So, don`t dare feign to believe that it is just me.

Seems like you're throwing your toys out of the pram if you're going to quit B and R. I sympathise, and agree with most of what you have said though.

All these vague assertions that "a significant portion of the population feels x" remind me of political extremists on both ends of the spectrum, who assume that because they feel very strongly that something *must be* true (eg. immigrants are stealing their jobs!), and maybe they've been chatting with a few other extremists who have reinforced their views, they think that the majority cares.
Here is a tip: the majority generally doesn't care. In this case, we just want to play blood bowl. In the political case, they just want to get on with their lives.
If you want to rage against the machine, fine, but don't pretend you speak for more than your clique.

I doubt if many peoples opinions of the admins have changed at all due to this.
They made a decision and some people don't like it but that does not affect their respect for admins or the site.
Admins have always told us how to play. Don't farm, don't cherry pick, Don't play over 40+ TS or 15% TV, don't concede etc.
Now a lot of other people want to tell us how we can or cannot use PO. :D
If you want a more laissez faire approach you can try Cyanide.
One of their admins posted yesterday that in their main admined MM league they can expect around 80% of games to be completed. The official MM leagues have no admins at all!
I don't know how many people will quit the site or B/R because of this but I'm certain that it is a tiny number compared to those who will drift away if you allow just any silly tactics to run rampant on the site.
Anyway Evo, you quit [R] every 6 months don't you?

Well.. It's a sad day for snotlings... Was looking forward to your game!
I'm glad you're taking a stand though. I was shocked to see action taken by staff on a FREE site, against someone who was just playing how he wanted to play. I've said it before, but whats the difference between lying down your players (making them useless) and playing with an all snotling team (also fairly useless!)...
I also disagree with people (the staff!) who say this situation has blown out of proportion. I'd say it's quite proportional. This was a big deal!

Evo asked me to post this on his behalf.
[QUOTE]My most sincerest of apologies. I'd have to write a novel to explain my thoughts and feelings but I think these two videos sum it up the best:

This, afaik, is the end of this matter.
