Hello FUMBBL.
WARNING. LONG POST BELOW
I just felt like making a random blog post about my time on here and what I've been up to. So...
Well, I got onto this site to bring the joy of Blood Bowl to my home forum (
http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/index.php) with our very own forum based league. Its quite small, but that is a good thing. My first time doing anything along these lines, so I wanted the minimum to reduce any real bad cock-ups. But that didn't really stop those from happening.
Basically, this is my first real step into the world of Blood Bowl and I chose to do this in the form of a commissioner. Brave or stupid? Anyway, overall it has gone well but I have some problems -

League Form
I was not aware that on FUMBBL the league will let you play only each team once, and then you had to set up a new league for any other games. This caused some problems with there being little information on this happening in the help section and so forced me to reduce our games by a third.
As turns out this is fine mainly because it will, or should have, allow us to finish the league quickly and get a second going which should have more coaches. A good thing I believe.
Also, I have had to form my own separate table to allow coaches to see their full league progress. Being as you cannot edit anything else in the league except the point scores of the teams. Shame.

Ushering
Now, due to this above problem, this has lead to players becoming lacklustre. Nothing to do with FUMBBL, but rather the coaches themselves. I have had to begin to enforce the "no game, lose points" threat I have included in our rules. This has lead to two coaches failing to play and thus lose points. Shame, but it had to happen to try and move the league forward.

Fiddling
This has been my fault. I have tried to play around with the settings to understand things and so far have managed to closed one league table that wasn't complete and then set it so one team has ended up with 1003pts which I cannot edit. Oops. I probably should have played about previously.
That said. I have found some of the Help files on the site less than that. Some lack details for new coaches and members of the site to set up their own league and how to run it etc. I think that be a nice addition.

Lack of Interest
I think many would agree that Blood Bowl in itself is a very niche game. It has a big loyal fan base, but its still a semi-underground game of GWs. This has lead to there being too few people wanting to join the league. I have some more interested in the next season, and hopefully that'll be even better than this one but still. I had wished for the league to be this HUGE thing that runs for years to come. But people are often unwilling to try anything than 40K or Fantasy. This applies to all specialist games really.
Or, people prefer to play the Tabletop version with the updated rules. (kinda looking forward to seeing LRB5 being used universally on the site).
However, this is not to say my time on FUMBBL has not been enjoyable. In running this league I have learned a whole host of things.

HTML
One thing I wanted to do was to make the group page interesting. I browsed the various groups here and loved some of their very personalised looks based up their own 'market' of gamers. I wanted LOBBA to have something similar, but that would require HTML ability. Oh which I have none.
So, I decided to try anyway. I found some decent guides online and set about playing about with stuff. So, I am now quite happy with the site. Kinda basic in comparison to others but for a basic beginners attempt I am happy. Also, I got two of my more artistic housemates to draw a couple of cups for me so people can see what they'd be trying to win. :D

Playing Blood Bowl
I have never really played before this. I once got involved in a game many moons ago, when I was still new to the world of war gaming. I had no idea what was happening, I didn't even know the rules and all I remember was I lost. =/ After that I never really looked favourably on it, like many gamers its one of GWs forgotten children. However, now I am an old gamer. (Well, still never played many games of anything but have been in the hobby for nigh on twelve years. More a painter than anything else) And these forgotten children have a good strong appeal to me. I love Mordheim and Blood Bowl was another step. I am glad I have done it. =)
So, yeah. I am not a good coach, but I need to learn and often have lots of fun playing my games. I hope to enjoy BB a lot more in the future.

Adds to LO
LO being Librarium-Online.com, my home forum. I love LO and try to do many things. In my six years there (seven come May next year) I have started various projects that still run to this date and done loads of things for the site. I am a supermod there and have held all positions on the site except Admin over my years there. So, I do mean love it.
I wanted to spread the BB love there and so this was the easiest way of getting people involved. It has partially worked, and for this I am happy. I hope to run LOBBA for many seasons to come. (And maybe win one =D )
There is more, but the details escape me right now. Instead, I am going to prolong this rambling, in the hopes that someone is still reading and is finding it interesting. I'm now going to focus on my actual playing.
In the LOBBA league I am currently using an orc team,
Choppatastic. I am bottom of the league with eight points from twelve games. =/. I am not that good. I'm OK, but I still cannot hold the basics and do silly things. This include:
* Blocking constantly with my guarding troll
* Not being able to hold a decent cage for more than a few turns
* Make risky moves due to lack of attention or foolishness
* Score.
I do have problems, hence my my team is currently 2/2/8 the two wins were in all honesty lucky. My last one I hit a DE team so bad they had four players on the pitch for about three or four turns, and only scored in turn eight of the second half.
I make risks. I either don't see the dangers (like a dodge with a Black Orc) or am just not paying enough attention to how to minimise my opponents next turn so I'm not hurt too badly. I need to basically stop doing these.
I have had a CAS drought. My Orcs are not liking to hurting players. Nothing against KOing them, but its either that or stunning them. Not what I want from a hitty team.
Lack of scoring means fewer SPPs on my team. I still have two Black Orcs who don't even have a skill and have been there for all my games so far. Its a bit disappointing, that's all.
I need more practice and I'm OK with that. I'm not very good with tactics but am slowly learning. I dislike having to award myself the wooden spoon for LOBBAs and my own first season. =(
To wrap up... Things I'd like to improve on.
* Get more people involved in LOBBA
* Have LOBBA reach at least five seasons.
* Enjoy it more
* Improve our group page
* Cause more Cas
* Win more games
* Play more games
^
* Play on the table top.

I have this odd and sometime quite debilitating trait of not wanting to ask for games against strangers. Or often at all. I am just odd like that, its weird for me. I want to get over it and would like to play more, as more games equals more chances to learn and take things in. I just am nervous like that, or just refresh the 'overview/home' page for fun. =/
Anyway.... that was rather long for a first post. Welcome to my world and the league of LOBBA.
