Arden Malefactors: On and Off the Pitch
A beastmen only team. It sounded like a great idea in my head. Turns out it is verging on the insane! I've taken 11 Beastmen Runners and one Enslaved Minotaur. The lack of strength 4 is painful. Only one S4 blitz a turn is a miserable prospect, with many teams having something big and hard hitting to easily counter that. What is more horrifying, however, is the unpredictability of the Minotaur. Don't get me wrong. I've been playing long enough to know that big guys are really unreliable at the best of times. Having said that, I've not played with a big guy as temperamental as the Mino. The thing is nuts. Crucial blitzes, where I don't have the strength to pull it off, are handed over to the Mino. To this, he often crosses his arms and shrugs at my plans with a stomp of his hoof and a huff through his ringed nose. The best plans of mice and men always fall to pap in the hands of the Mino - truth! The progression on here so far has seen the Mino get Block (helpful) and a Beast get +AG (great), so the team is one to watch, I guess, as they gradually pick up more skills and develop into positionals. The whole reason for this team is just that. I wanted to manufacture a team of rookie linos into a squad of specialised players. I want dedicated ballcarriers, blitzers, guarders, (foulers?) and a chunky Minotaur who does as he's told. Whether to build the Mino as a roadblock (Tentacles, Prehensile Tail, Stand Firm) remains to be seen, as a killer Mino would be easy to build now that he has Block (Claw, Break Tackle) - again, we'll have to see how he gets on in future games and on how long he stays alive!

I'm also taking the same team to the tabletop league I run in Birmingham - Mayhem Blood Bowl League. Again, this is going to be really interesting to see, as so far the team has been really difficult to play. Practicing on FUMBBL has already been invaluable - even though it is only three games in - as the glaring holes in my gameplay is very obvious. I'm so used to stunty teams and therefore having easy dodges that the gaming is really different in style. Gathering practice here and trying out different builds will hopefully lead to a nice result in the tabletop league, but we can only wait to find out.

Not much else to write, so I'll leave it at that for now. A friendly match is scheduled for this Monday against Elven Union (quite an experienced team, to boot) so the result of that should be quite telling! I'll be sure to type up a match report for that and we can see if the friendly gives more to the team than it takes away - especially against the Dwarf team I am to face the week following!

I also have a beastmen team only, but not with the same objective.
My initial idea was to have 1 big minotaur and 10 little ones (with frenzy/mighty blow as core skills), but skill rolls made me deviate from my initial route.
Still a pretty fun team to play, and not so un-efficient ! :D
