Legends of CIBBL - S. Sang (obit)

He might have been a total %#$£, but he was our total %#$£!
Calico Jack - Sartosan Black Flags

There are many players who leave their mark on CIBBL. Whether through brute force, athleticism or the incredible ability to survive injuries that most would be forced into early retirement or an early grave. This time we're looking at someone who has done all of the above for one of the long term mainstays of the league. Even if the commentators curse has struck and I'm stuck here, teary eyed rewriting this article.

The Norscan Curse made their debut back in the first year of CIBBL, and their first game was against the now defunct Tor Anroc Anglers, it was an unflattering performance for the team losing 1-0 but one player left his mark. Team captain and number one the vampire lord S. Sang who managed to hit the elven lineman Linfarnir and take him out of the game. Not a sensational debut but it began his rise in the game.

S. Sang, eh? The game I remember best against him is the snow game of Spring 2603. Horrible weather, the guy just badly hurt one of my teammates, then he catches the ball that he shouldn't have seen due to the blizzard. Scored late in the half too, we had to sprint a lot to get the win. He's a fighter! Some say he is past his prime, but I say thats Ph'nglui mglw'nafh wgah'nagl fhtagn. True legend of the league and one of the best players th Anglers have ever played against. Those were the days...

Firithas - Tor Anroc Anglers

This was the pattern for the next couple of games as the vampire added some casualties to his list over the next two games. Three games, three casualties. Carrying the team during its earliest struggles. A couple more casualties and some working on his footwork, Sang managed to add a new string to his bow, dodging free to score his first CIBBL touchdown against another defunct team Forsaken of the Pantheon

He died how he lived. blitzed by a giant spider
Unnamed Slaaneshi cultist

Sang progressed nicely, racking up casualties and touchdowns before a renewal of the rivalry with the Black Flags, the flags may have won the game 1-0 but the vampire officially named as a star now, shocked everyone by completing his first pass, a lateral to long time partner in crime, the dearly departed (again) L.A. Blond. It wasn't big, or clever but it was one of only two completions, both to the same receiver. We can only assume after her death he didn't feel comfortable passing to any other player.

Sangs best performance came alongside the final curtain of the Granite division in Autumn of Year 6. Their opponents that day, the Karak Azog Outlaws would win the title that day by winning 3-2 but all of the talk following the game was about Sang who managed to take down the big troll Ripper and chainsaw Gosh Onehanded before scoring two touchdowns in what was almost a miraculous fightback.

Of course, you wouldn't be a top CIBBL player without an injury, two, or six and Sang is no exception. Despite the struggling team he's been fortunate to avoid them for the most part. The most notable of which is a broken neck caused during the first meeting between the Curse and regional rivals the Oceanborn Sea Eagles. A panicked reaction from the elven thrower that saw Sang unable to shrug off the blow. His other notable injury coming in a game against the now defunt Bloodforce, a smashed knee he hasn't let hold him back.

I'm not a physical player, my job is to stand there and throw the ball. Occasionally I take a step or two before throwing it. So when I saw Sang in front of me and Triandal didn't get rid of him I was over come with fear and flailed wildly. Imagine my surprise when he was being moved off the field with the medical staff. I'm lucky he never got a shot at me for vengeance.
Arco Aeonir - Oceanborn Sea Eagles

Sang finally reached the apex of the game, officially being declared a legend this past spring, where he took on the Dreki and killing one of the many journeymen to pass through their doors. It may not have done much about the scoreline, but it ensured his place in blood bowl history.

Just when you think you're safe from that guy leaping and blitzing you off the pitch, he continues to surprise you!
Mimir - Dökkálfar Dreki

One last look at this great player, as he looked before his final game

Thank you, sweet prince

So you wanna talk about S. Sang?
How can we describe a player like him?
Wanna talk about that time he showed Ripper Bolgrot who was boss in his match vs Karak Azog Outlaws putting the big troll on the bench?
The very same match when he scored TWICE?
You see, Sang is not the classic legend of this sport, all about fame, all about sponsors, all about living a long career trying to hide himself behind his teammates, no, not Sang.

You see, even his name is a mistery: S. Sang. What the S stands for? Some say it is Sam, some others say stands for Sylvester.
It is a mistery like that time he faced Gorequeen’s Raiders and killed a norseman, scored two touchdowns and didn’t get the Mvp.

Sang is a guy that quickly learned that being a legend is not only having that status, it is about embodying it. Always on the front line, no fear shown, always carrying the team on his shoulders, never hiding and since we don’t exactly know what his S. stands for…

Wait.
What?
I was writing about him right now…
WHAT?
A SPIDER?
Ah.

Well, S. Sang played his last match few minutes ago. Always on the front line, no fear shown, always carrying the team on his shoulders, never hiding and now we exactly know what his S. stands for:
SUPER SANG, hero of the people, you didn’t live long enough to become a villain.

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

Sorry never had a glimpse of who i was truly killing today.
Rip sang.
I believe you had goblins' blood (running from your hands) and a spider heart too (right under your left shoe)so i guess it's ok if the Arachnarok's forest breeds may attend the obituary service.

Down by the coastline I saw a plot,
that lay in a weathered sward;
it looked all neglected, a mean sunken spot,
but kept still its blackened board.
It read 'S. Sang' in white, and the date
his final repose had been.
He lay to the moon and the winds' keen weight,
and that's why the trees looked so gnarled with hate,
with blood red flowers between.
