The first thing to hit you when you walk out on to the Astrogranite is usually a rock, or a mug of ale, or a lightning bolt or something. I was lucky I heard the blood curdling noise of 51,000 Bloodbowl Maniacs crying out for blood and scores.
To be honest with you I spent the first half hour before entering the arena on the toilet, you could say I was a little worried. My worries disappeared when I entered the field though, filled with adrenaline, pumping through my veins I looked up to see the opposition Gruff Nux, a motley band of Orcs and Trolls. I knew it would a long day.
Amazingly I had been picked for the first 11 and took my position just behind the line of scrummage.
The crowd roared with approval as the ball soared over my head on the turf behind only then again to bounce in front on me as I tried to pick the bloody bladder up. As I was informed in training “Linesman are not ball players, they are people players”
I left the ball and rushed in to the LOS only to be quickly knocked on my arse with a huge blow to my head from a Black Orc.
To be fair they battered us physically up front on the Line of Scrummage nearly forcing a turnover straight away, But Croes the team No.1 Thrower picked the ball up and launched a long bomb to Uni Unterstellar who had made his way down field and into open space. He than avoided a block, and with help from Blitzer Hollseher skip passed a tackle for the first score of the day.

By this time I was up on my feet wonder what on Nurgle's good earth had happened to me. I've played only a few minutes of the game and have been slapped down like annoying Halfling.
Things are about to get worse......
We kick off the ball sails deep, into the arms of there awaiting Blitzer, I'm ball watching ..... and that's all I remember. Apparently I was placed on the LOS when straight away a took a shoulder shot directly to my jaw. I was K. O'ed straight away. I was told that after Gruff Nux scored on that drive ( a very nice caged moved) that we had 5 played knocked out, we where lucky, it could have been far worse.
A the beginning of the second half, Gus, a freebooter we hired at the start of the game (one of our catchers was injured) suffered a serious concussion and Noe de Valderamma was hit in the head with a rock thrown by Gruff fans. We now had only 5 active played on the pitch. Schlueter was then another arrival in the K.O. Box, 4 players left, now a matter of surviving the game rather than winning or drawing. Croes became the 7th man in the K.O bin.
People who join the Imperial army see less bodies than a Bloodbowl player.
Hollseher got one back for us though planting a spiked elbow through the skull of an unwitting Gobbo, this set the crowd alight. Nothing like seeing the underdog making a come back. Again when Gruff Nux attacked again Hollseher K.O'd one of them Greenie blitzers, but eventually the certainty of the Orcs scoring again happens.Down 2-1, and still I'm not judged fit enough to play. The match ends. My contribution to the game, blocks NIL, rushing yards NIL, passes NIL, knocked on my arse ONE, K.o'd ONE.
Apparently that's what us Linesmen are for, no glamour, a lot less gold.......

But yet I'm craving another game.
