I would vote yes to such a thing as selective scheduling, because you do a convincing job of presenting the topic = )

I have only one [B] team, but it isn't some nefarious plot. I'm fairly new to the site, and I don't have the time to play more than a few times in a week. Since I'm still learning how to play, it helps to stick to only a few teams overall, especially since I don't play that often.
My first two teams are in [A]. When games proved difficult to arrange at times, I created one in [R], but even that has proven frustrating on occasion in scheduling a quick game. Thus, I created a team for [B], which has generally gotten me games when I don't have much time to spare. When I have more time to work with, I try to get a game for one of the other three teams. Four teams is enough, I think, at least until I build up some experience with them. (The only exception would be an [L] team if I could find a league suitable to my limited schedule.)
In any case, the selective rest option would not inspire me to create another [B] team because what's the point of creating another team just to not play them?

I wish we could "sleep" some teams too. I get tired of playing my orcs sometimes
