Welcome to WOBBL hbbn

Waffle's Open Blood Bowl League (WOBBL) is a global, bi-weekly scheduled league, with 2016 progression and Secret League rosters.

Why WOBBL?

This is a league for coaches who enjoy playing in the 2020 ruleset overall, but prefer the old style of skill progression, where you roll dice with every level-up, and where secondary skills and stats are more common. It's also a place to play with FUMBBL's excellent Secret League roster of teams. Apart from that, WOBBL is a straightforward no-frills league: no racial caps, no redraft, no special rules or requirements. Simply pick your preferred team and have fun!

If this sounds like something for you, why not create a team and sign up? We're always looking for new applicants. Come hang out on the Discord server - that's where the magic happens.

Recruitment for season 2 has closed, but you can still get on the waitlist in case of dropouts.

Rules

The most important rule of WOBBL is DBAD. Don't be a dick!

All other rules should be considered subject to change at all times, based on the whims of admin-in-chief WaffleIron.

Available teams:

All official teams, as seen HERE.
All Secret League teams, as seen HERE.
All additional NAF teams, as seen HERE.

All new teams start with a budget of 1100 TV. All new teams must be fresh!

League participation:

All coaches are required to complete the season they've signed up for. If you repeatedly fail to show up for your games, or fail to make reasonable attempts to schedule your games, you may be kicked out and potentially banned for multiple seasons. If you need to forfeit a round or drop out of the league, please let an admin know.

Scheduling:
Coaches are expected to start scheduling early and give reasonable options for game times. If in doubt, follow the principles of common sense and common courtesy.

We encourage the scheduling to happen on the Discord server, but this is not required, and FUMBBL PMs are valid in any situation where a match might have to be admined. However, coaches should try to stick to one or the other during any single round.

Timeouts:
Timeouts are not allowed. If an opponent is taking an unreasonably long time and is unresponsive about it, take it up with an admin instead.

Conceding:
Conceding is not allowed, unless it is a legal concede. A coach can legally concede when their team doesn't have the three players required to set up a line of scrimmage.

League structure:

Starting with season 2, the structure of the league is as follows:
- One premiership
- One or more divisions of experienced teams
- One or more divisions of fresh teams

Division size will depend on the number of signups, but will likely be 8 or 10 teams. Promotion/demotion spots as well as the number of experienced divs below premiership and their rank relative to each other will also depend on the number of signups. There will always be a division for fresh teams. If we have an uneven number of signups, experienced teams may be slotted in to fill up the fresh division(s).

Post-season:
After the regular league is finished, there is a playoff competition. This is a KO tournament where the best teams from all divisions compete for the title of WOBBL champion. Seeding and tournament size will depend on the number of signups. Seeding will be weighted towards the higher divisions (so the prem will get more playoffs spots than the fresh div). A 16-team tournament is the standard, but may be increased or decreased depending on the size of the league.

Between seasons:

Between seasons, all MNGs are cleared, and any niggles on the team have a chance to be healed. A d6 roll is made for each niggled player, and on a 4+ the niggle is removed (3+ if the team has an apothecary).

Temporary retirement:
Between seasons, teams may be temporarily retired. This means that a coach may reroll with a different team, and as long as the old team hasn't played any games since it was retired it can be brought back in future seasons. There is no limit to the number of temporarily retired teams. However, if a team plays anywhere outside of the scheduled league - eg. in the open play environment - it is permanently retired and cannot be brought back.

TV caps:
TV caps may be introduced to keep the league from becoming too unbalanced. TBD as it becomes relevant.

Ruleset:

Standard 2020 rules on the pitch.

2016 rules for skill progression. This means that when a player reaches the SPP threshold for gaining a level, a roll of 2d6 is made to decide what skills or stats that player is eligible to pick.

SPP thresholds:
Level 1: 6 SPP
Level 2: 16 SPP
Level 3: 32 SPP
Level 4: 51 SPP
Level 5: 76 SPP
Level 6: 126 SPP
Level 7: 176 SPP

In addition to primary skills, the player may select skills/stats on the following rolls (TV cost in brackets):
12: +ST (60 TV)
11: +AG (40 TV), +PA (20 TV)
10: +MA (20 TV), +AV (10 TV)
Doubles (1+1, 2+2, etc.): Any secondary skill (30 TV)

Scoring:
Teams will receive 5 points for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. For an admined result, the points are the same except that a loss awards 0 points.

MVPs:
After a game, the coach nominates 6 players, and a roll is made to select one of these as MVP.

Inducements and star players:
Repriced megastars, everything else as per official 2020 rules. Megastar prices can be found here. Star player availability for individual teams can be found on the team pages.

Tie-breakers:
Tie-breakers are: head to head > touchdown difference > CAS difference. If this is not enough to separate the teams, a random roll will be performed or a tiebreaker game will be played.

The complete ruleset may be viewed HERE.

Current season

Season 2 is under way! Deadlines are as follows:

Round 1: 27/11/24
Round 2: 11/12/24
Round 3: 05/01/25*
Round 4: 22/01/25
Round 5: 05/02/25
Round 6: 19/02/25
Round 7: 05/03/25

*Round 3 has been extended because of the holidays.

After the regular season, there will be a playoff tournament. 8 teams across all divisions will battle it out to become the champ and claim the prestigious WOBBL Cup. Tickets are divided thusly:
- Championship: Top 3 teams.
- Division 2: Top 2 teams.
- Division 3A and 3B: Top 1.

That adds up to 7 tickets. The last ticket will go to the best team in the league that didn't secure a regular ticket, ie. the team with the highest point total. Tiebreakers are the same as usual (see Rules).

We're still looking for coaches to go on the waitlist in case of early season dropouts! There are currently 0 teams on the waitlist (10/12/2024).

Hall of Fame

Welcome to the WOBBL Hall of Fame.

Team awards:

WOBBL Champion
The current WOBBL champion and holder of the magnificent WOBBL Cup is Slaanesh side Viron Wanderers, who made it to the top through an unstoppable combination of admin dice and elf bullshit.

Fair Play Trophy
In WOBBL, fair play is valued above all else - and what could be fairer than to score a legitimate touchdown against an absent opposition? This award goes to the most murderous team. Currently held by the Entwives treemen with a respectable 24 CAS on record.

The Niggle
Companion of the Fair Play Trophy, The Niggle is awarded to the team with the dubious honour of sustaining the most casualties. The most banged-on team in all of WOBBL is gnomish side Puzzling Names. A whopping 29 of these paper-skinned matchstick-boned disappointments were scraped off the pitch in just one season.

Best Fluff
The award for Best Fluff is also held by the Entwives, in recognition of the painstaking work that has gone into writing unique biographies for each notoriously fragile and expendable Spite lineman. One day, someone will read them.

Individual awards:

The Golden Boot
Possibly the most prestigious award in all of Blood Bowl, the name is self-explanatory -- it is of course awarded to the player with the most fouls. WOBBL's top fouler is 'Ooligan Rhett Celise, with a magnificent 25 fouls in one season. That's just over three and a half fouls per game!

Top Scorer
The Top Scorer plaque, lovingly crafted from hardened licorice and bits of discarded shopping trolleys, goes to the player who has most fundamentally misunderstood the objective of the game. It is currently held by the Viron Wanderers front goat Auk, who had nothing better to do than score 11 touchdowns in one season.

Hank J. Wimbleton Memorial Trophy
The Hank J. Wimbleton Memorial Trophy commemorates a true legend of the sport, and is awarded to the player who inflicts the most casualties. The trophy is currently held by Hank himself. Though his career was brief, this Bloodthirster managed to inflict a staggering 10 CAS in only 5 games before his life was tragically cut short. Rest in peace, Hank.

FAQ

When does the next season start?
We're just now starting a new season, so the next one is a good while away.

How do I sign up?
Create a team here and apply here (scroll down to "Apply for membership"). It's best if you also either join the Discord server or get in touch with an admin via PM, so we know you're alive and available to schedule your games.

What are the requirements for signing up?
You need to be able to schedule and play a game of Blood Bowl once every two weeks. That's it! Be aware that this is a global league, so you will be expected to schedule with people from around the world. You will also be expected to finish any season you sign up for. Blood Bowl is a frustrating game, but when you drop out, everyone's affected.

How long do I have to get my game played?
WOBBL is a bi-weekly league, with rollover being Wednesdays at midnight server time (CEST). Deadlines for the current season can be found under the Season tab.

Some Secret League teams come with special rules that require manual admin. Are those teams available?
SL teams with special rules are considered on a case-by-case basis. Ask an admin!

Help! My opponent isn't responding/my opponent and I can't find a time that suits both of us.
If it's looking like your game won't get played, reach out to an admin, ideally well before the deadline. We will consider how to resolve the game based on the communication between the two coaches.
