The Random League intends to unite a compact group of coaches who share a similar vision of the game in order to build a solid and durable tournament.
The basic premise of the tournament is: the coach is more important than the team’s race. This is, if you are a good coach you can coach anything, so you don’t choose race. This will also (hopefully) help making the League more interesting and assorted, instead of the usual one with 50% of the teams being undead, orc and chaos dwarves.
Rules
Allowed teams: All open teams plus some divx ones: Elf, Necromantic, Nurgle’s Rotters, Vampire, Chaos Pact, Old World, Lustrian.
Type: Randomly seeded Round Robin scheduled league, then play offs.
Team selection: The race will be randomly rolled via bot in one of the irc channels, but being bloodbowl you are allowed a RR, which works just like the in-game one: you have to choose if you reroll the race the moment you get it, and you have to stick to the rerolled result even if it's halflings! Muahahahaha!
Ahem.
In-Tourney handicap: After playing in some tourneys here in FUMBBL, it is obvious to me that some kind of handicap is absolutely needed in a scheduled tourney format so that teams which get trounced in their first game are not automatically out.
First season we will test this handicap: For each 15 str points difference the underdog’s coach points to three players of the more powerful team, then the powerful team’s coach chooses one of those three players and sits him in the bench for the game.
More accurately: 0-15 str difference: No handicap
16-30 str difference: 1 player out
31-45 str difference: 2 players out
And so on.
After first season the handicap will be discussed and tweaked.
Games outside the Tourney: Not allowed.
Stars: Not allowed in Random League. Most of the experimental teams don’t have access to them, so it wouldn’t be fair.
Good spirited coaches: Random League is not for every type of coach out there. In this League context, good spirited just means you won’t act childlishly nor will be unrespectful to the other coaches. We don’t need or want coaches who will drop the tourney if they get a team they don’t like, or that will just disappear for three weeks without announcing it, or that will abuse the handicap system if they discover a major flaw in it instead of communicating and helping to make it better. This League is not the place for power gamers, thank you.
The winner: The winner of the season receives the Best Coach In The Universe award and receives no RR next season in the team selection phase. After all, the Best Coach In The Universe doesn’t really need it, does he? :-)
Second season: There will be 16 teams playing in two divisions. Division is randomly selected via bot too. The four teams with more points in each division will advance to playoff. If there is a tie in points then the team with better TD diff will advance, if that is tied too then the team with better CAS diff will advance. If that is also tied we’ll roll a dice to break the tie.
Have fun!
