Over two hundred years ago the infamously heartless Bazdreg One-Eye of Black Iron Mountain witnessed his first ever game of Blood Bowl shortly after a race relations seminar. As he sat twisting his moustache and soaking up the carnage it struck him as the perfect solution to a problem he’d been having with his green skinned slaves. They were an energetic and raucous bunch, often “accidents” would happen as they fought amongst themselves or even rebelled against their evil Chaos Dwarf Masters.
Upon his return Overlord Bazdreg ordered a quarterly competition that pitted Orc vs Master, just the release needed to vent their excess energies. Sure people still died, accidents still happened but it gave the Chaos Dwarfs and Greenskin horde something to look forward to. Flagons of ale were downed within mighty tents as nearby Overlords planned epic conquests, traded slaves and shared the newest beard curling trends.
Soon as news of these fantastic festivals spread, bloodthirsty crowds and deep pocketed nobles begun to arrive from far and wide.
It wasn’t long before the Mythril Maniac’s, reigning champions of Karok Ungor turned up to show Bazdreg's team what for. After an unusually brutal contest 5 players lay dead and many more bore crippling injuries as Bazdreg’s unimaginatively named Black Iron Mountain Black Orc’s were crowned victorious. The success of the home side spread like wild fire and offers of matches flooded in from far and wide. So many teams wanted to spank the B.I.M.B.O’s that an enormous open style league was started, with the goal of splitting the teams into divisions.
Sadly Bazdreg died in a slave revolt 3 years later and things fizzled out until 7 years later, on the 10th anniversary of the Original Match Bazdreg’s son and successor sent envoys and scouts throughout the Old World and beyond to honour his Great father and fill the Stadiums once again…

Initial Qualifying Round

To get the excitement going we'll be hosting a massive multiple team open/round robin style qualifying division. There'll be no limit to the number of games played, the only rule we ask you to abide by is that no team is to be played twice by the same team. The qualifying round will run for 4 weeks, after which the scores will be totalled up and the teams split into the relevent divisions based on position and touchdown difference.

Division Format

The M.I.F will operate an Open 3 league (to begin with) format with fixed match Knockout tournaments and various other competitions thrown in to keep things as interesting and exciting as possible. Fixed match Tournaments can and often do degenerate into a commish nightmare so we'll keep it user friendly - allowing players to play who they want when they want.

Division Size

The key to a successful open style tournament is variation. Therefore we'll be aiming to host as many teams within our leagues as possible. 16-20 would be an ideal figure, however, to start with we'll happily settle on 12 with the possibilty of increasing promotions come the end of the season to accomodate the mass interest our fabulous league will generate.

Team Restrictions

The TR cap for teams entering the qualifiers is 125 or less. This is to allow people to use their existing teams and keeps the Team Ratings limited so high TR teams don't dominate from the off and muscle the smaller teams out of the competition. Coaches are permitted to enter more than one team, however, should more than one qualify for a division only one will be granted a place in each and you'll be left with the difficult decision of which to use. Excess teams may re-enter into the Filter division in following seasons.

Season Length

The Qualifying season length is going to be four weeks long. hopefully this should promote a fast pace of games being played so people can get as high a score as possible!

Promotion and Relegation Rules

The number of Divisions hasn't been decided yet. But we would like to keep the number of people in each division high if possible. This is because it should make for a much more exciting environment from which to find winners, as an early loss need not be the end of the world, and with a bigger pool to play from, recovers etc are far more likely. The way promotions will work is displayed in the tables below. The top three teams will automatically be promoted, at the other end of the standings the bottom two teams will also be relegated. The third and fourth from bottom teams will play a playoff at teh end of the season to decide who earns the right to stay in the division.

These rules, the scoring system, and the divisional rules are all subject to change depending on the interest shown in the M.I.F.

Team Restrictions

Only TR125 or less teams are allowed.

All teams must be in the League division.

Underdog Rule

To assist smaller teams and to motivate them to accept games against stronger teams we've decided to introduce the new "Underdog" rule. When playing an opponent with a team strength of 11 or more higher a team gets an extra +1 point for the game. This means they would get 6/4/2 for the game. To claim the extra point you must send a link to the game report to the onionking so we can update your score manually.

Game Dodging

At least for now, coaches are under no obligation to play every team with their own if they dont want to. This is an effort to self regulate the league, in order to prevent powerful teams crippling others and dominating the league. For example feel free to enter a Khemri team with four Dirty Players in your line-up, but don't be surprised if nobody wants to play them. The Underdog rule should hopefully motivate people to try their hand against more powerful teams.

Match Reports

Once the league has begun and games are being played please try to include match reports in your post game sequence. It'll help greatly in the seasonal round ups as the competition progresses. A fluff thread will be opened once the action begins!

What happens if?...

...a team retires prematurely
This shouldn't be too big a problem during a regular open format season. Please inform Jigplums or Stampy of your intention to leave the M.I.F. This will have a knock on effect in that an extra team will be promoted from the lower division who will receive an extra promotion from the division below them and so on.

...a coach fails to play a single game
Given the two month time period for a regular season I can't really see this being an issue, however, should it occur the relegated teams will be randomly selected.
