Concerning SMACKS

How to set up a Scheduled SMACK

(at least that's the way Rabe did it - feel free to improve the procedure!)

Before accepting/denying teams

1. Go through all teams on the application list and check if they have missing players (1.1) or spare guys (1.2 - rookie teams without a first match done/accidentally hired journeymen). This takes less time than it might look at a first glance.

1.1 Calculate the missing player(s)' value(s) (buying costs + TV of skills and stat increases), subtract the value of a substitute (journeyman or a player hired as a temporary replacement) and add the difference to the TV. This value determines which TV category the team has to play in. If the category changes due to your calculation, take a note somewhere to make sure you'll remember later!

1.2 Subtract the spare guys value from the TV. The result determines which TV category the team has to play in. If the category changes due to your calculation, take a note somewhere to make sure you'll remember later!

2. Choose a TV category to start with.

3. Sort the applications by application date (standard configuration anyway). Oldest application shows on top of the list now, so just accept the teams one by one. Skip teams of coaches that already have a team in the bracket you're currently forming. Don't deny them though - they might be allowed to enter another SMACK in the same TV category! Remind yourself of the teams that have to play in a different TV category than their TV shown indicates (result of step 1, see above). Repeat until you have accepted eight teams or no teams (from different coaches) are left in that TV category.

4. If you don't have enough teams to start the SMACK, you can either kick them all right away or ask on #BB7s chat whether anyone wants to throw in (another) team within that TV category. This choice is up to you, depending on time and energy you want to spend by that time.

After accepting/denying teams

5. Check if all eight teams are "ready to play" (green "R" in front of the team name). If some team isn't, either kick it from the group right away (and replace it with the next team from the application list) or see if the team's owner is online on #BB7s and can ready his team within a few minutes. If teams are readied like that - after being accepted - make sure they still fit into the TV category!

6. Check if the eight teams are members of the BB7s Main Group. If they are not, either (A) kick them from the group and note the coach's name to send him a PM later or (B) check the team's history and see whether it could be accepted into the main group anyway (IMPORTANT: Only do this if you're absolutely sure about the procedure and terms of accepting teams into the main group! You can always ask other staff members currently online on #BB7s for help.). If you find the team is legal, leave it in the group. In both cases, send the team owner(s) a PM, reminding him/them that teams have to be member of the main group to participate in tournaments.

7. Finally got eight legal teams, ready to SMACK? Go to the "Tournaments" header on the group pages and "Create new tournament". Fill in the following information:
"Name": BB7s SMACK [TV Category] [Number] ([year])
-> Example: BB7s SMACK Tavern VIII (2011)
To find out the number you just browse the past SMACKS and search for the one with the highest number in that category (be aware: a more recent SMACK might have ended quicker than one that started a week earlier!).
"Comments": Deadline for round 1: [date], [time] bbtime
Staff member to contact: [name]
Standard weekday and time of deadlines are stated on the SMACK page.
All other fields can be left untouched. You can edit this information later - so if you're not sure who will be in charge of a SMACK, just put your own name in first. After you're done, hit the "Create" button.

8. The tournament is now shown on the group's "Tournaments" page. Choose "Start Tournament".

9. Seeding = Random. You can choose "Kick from group" if you're sure you haven't made any mistakes. Then choose "Start". Done!

10. Check whether all seems fine with the SMACK you've just set up. Then go either back to 2. and start creating another SMACK or deny any applications left if you don't have enough teams in any TV category.

Procedure for handling rules violations

For interpretation and elaboration on this ask Asgovic.
Managers handling rules violations are currently Asgovic and Blizzbirne.

1. Warning for "reason": typically an honest mistake
2. Team in question suspended for 1 week/current tourney(s) for "reason": for consciously breaking the rules
3. Coach in question Suspended for 1 week+current tourney(s) for "reason": as above, but repeat offender
4. Coach in question Suspended for 1 month+current tourney(s) for "reason": as above, but repeat offender
5. Coach in question Suspended for 3 months+current tourney(s) for "reason": as above, but repeat offender
6. Permanent ban: excess violation of the rules with full knowledge of rules, and with intention to disrupt the community
