Small step by step guide to get you in to the BCL
  1. Take a look at the different leagues and choose which you'd like to participate in and read the requirements
  2. Join the DISCORD and claim you place by messaging Gridironman (or other admin) you want to join
  3. Tell admin what roster you would like (admin will make you one, if necessary), a City and make up a Name like"Mordheim Scramblers"
  4. Once the roster is ready admin will let you know
  5. Then you can press "Create team for this league" on the up-right corner on the league main page or press here
  6. Pick your roster and name it accordingly
  7. Buy a full roster ideally maxing your positional allotment 16 and submit the team for approval (admin will add the rerolls and apothecary).
  8. Apply for membership on the BCL Teams tab or press here
  9. Make pictures, icons and perhaps some info/background for the team (or ask for help doing them). Read the info pages and stay active in the Discord while waiting for a draft to begin.

League Clash Friendlies
Leagues will pair off in which their teams play a one off match against one another in which deaths and injuries do not count, but SPP does.

Preseason Domestic Tournament
All teams of a league regardless of division play in a knockout tournament which features golden goal overtimes.


Regular Season
A five game round robin. If division one expands into being 12 teams strong then it is split into 2 6 team conferences that each play 5 games, the winner of each round robin plays in the regular season championship. Division 2 can play as many as 7 regular season games in a round robin but no fewer than 5 games.

Promotion Matches
Promotion matches are one off matches with golden goal overtimes if necessary. The winner heads to division one and the loser goes to division two.


Postseason Tournaments
Teams are organized into the tournaments that they qualify for and play it out according to the tournament rules.


BWC Allstar Tournament
Allstar teams representing each league play in a round robin. The team must have players from every roster represented. If the league has more than 16 teams then the all star team need to have 16 players from unique teams. The team will have: x2 catchers, x2 stunties, x2 passers, x2 blitzers, x2 blockers(natural ST 4 positionals), x1 bigs, x5 linemen will fill the remaining roster of 16. The position types that are not represented in a league will be filled by closest replacements, i.e. catcher positionals can be stunty as an example.

Draft
Flights draft simultaneously. A flight comprises at least 12 teams. The draft order of each flight is based on the performance of the prior season with the worst teams picking first for each flight. The flights are equally distributed in terms of team standings. A pick window lasts 10 hours before the next team in the flight may draft at which time the team late in picking can still pick at any time.

Expansion Draft
A snake draft for teams joining an already formed league. They will pick x8 players from free agents and are not allowed to trade picks. These teams will join the main draft afterwards

Inaugural Draft
A snake draft for teams joining an already formed league. They will pick x8 players from a league only draft pool and are not allowed to trade picks. These teams will join the main draft afterwards.

Top Tier Postseason: Bloodbowl Champions’ League (BCL)

It is a UEFA Champions’ League style event. There are four ways to qualify for the tournament. The methods are preseason tournament winner, regular season winner, NFL, and at large.

Each league has a preseason domestic tournament and the winner of this knockout with the feature of golden goal overtime games bracket will qualify for the BCL

Each league will have a division 1 round robin regular season five games in length. The winner of the round robin will qualify for the BCL. However, if the division 1 of the league is expanded into two 6 team conferences, then a championship match would occur between the round robin winners of the two conferences. The winner would then be considered to be the regular season champion and then would qualify for the BCL.

The NFL premiership will provide 4/6 of their teams to the BCL. Please read the premiership League section (below) for more information on this topic.

At large berths are determined by the remainder of teams that it takes to reach a BCL field divisible by the number four, or if the automatic qualifiers already are divisible by four without at large berths an additional 4 teams.
The format involves a round robin group stage with groups of four followed by a knockout round. The strength of teams in each group are evenly distributed based on regular season standings.


Mid Tier Postseason: Amorical Mountains Invitational
The first runner up from each league that did not qualify for the BCL will play a postseason round robin. The round robin is randomly generated.


Low Tier Postseason: Major Bloodbowl Open
All division one teams that did not qualify for the BCL or the AMI are included in the MBO knockout tournament. The bracket is randomly generated.
Bottom Tier Postseason: Placeholder
The division two teams that did not win their league’s domestic tournament play a tournament.


Standard League

The winner of the regular season and the winner of the preseason domestic tournament automatically qualify for the BCL. At large teams will vie for berths into the BCL within the unified standings against teams from other leagues, however, the runner up of the league will qualify for the AMI. The Remaining teams will qualify for the MBO.
The domestic tournament is comprised of all league teams regardless of playing in division 1 or 2. The only way for a division 2 team to be included in the BCL tournament involves winning the domestic tournament.
The domestic tournament is a knockout style tournament that features golden goal overtimes.

A 6 team league will only have one division.

A 10 team league will have a division 1 and division 2. It would retain a 6 team division one and 4 team division two. Division two plays a 3 game round robin and 2 ladder matches afterwards. The top placed division 2 team replaces the last placed division one team. The 2nd place division two team plays the 2nd to last placed division 1 team, and the 3rd placed division two team plays the third worst division one team in promotion matches; the losers would be sent to division two with the winners sent to division one.

A 12-team league would only have a division one with 2 6 team conferences. The two conference teams would not have any interconference matches but rather run 2 separate round robins. The winner of each round robin would play for the regular season championship for the BCL auto bid.

A 16 team league would reintroduce a division two of 4 teams. Except this time, the first and second place teams of division two would replace the 2 last placed teams of the division one conferences and the 3rd and 4th placed division two teams would play a promotion match against the 2nd worst teams of the division one conferences.

A 18 team league would have the 2 division one conferences of 6 and a 6 team division two. Division 2 plays a 5 game round robin. The top 2 ranked division 2 teams would then automatically replace the worst team of each division one conference automatically. The 3rd and 4th placed teams of division two would play a promotion match between the 2nd worst teams of each division 1 conference. The 5th and 6th teams of division 2 would then play the 3rd worst teams of each division 1 conference.

A 20 team league is considered maximum capacity. It would have 2 division one conferences of 6 teams (12) and a division two of 8 teams. The top 2 ranked division 2 teams would then automatically replace the worst team of each division one conference automatically. The 3rd and 4th placed teams of division two would play a promotion match between the 2nd worst teams of each division 1 conference. The 5th and 6th teams of division 2 would then play the 3rd worst teams of each division 1 conference. The 7th and 8th placed division two teams will remain in division two automatically.

The promotion matches occur after the regular season and before the postseason.


Premiership League
The Naggaroth Football League (NFL) is a rotating premiership. The term rotating premiership is coined here to describe the function of this league. The regular season champions of all other leagues from the previous season will play their season in this premiership. It means that no team will play in the NFL consecutive seasons unlike real world premier leagues in European football. It allows new teams to have a chance to win their domestic league while the regular season champ from the prior season is a way and allows the best teams to clash with each other in a high level competition. Since the qualifier for this league involves winning the team’s domestic league, there will be no teams with back to back seasons in the NFL.
Four NFL teams qualify for the BCL tournament, if a team is in the top four and wins the NFL preseason tournament then three other teams qualify. If the NFL preseason tournament winner is outside of the top four then the top 3 teams in the regular season standings qualify with it. The next runner up goes to the AMI and remaining worst team to the MBO.

Bloodbowl World Cup/BWC

The Bloodbowl World Cup is like the Olympics or our world's version of World Cups in sports. It will be comprised of all star teams from each league that will play in a round robin tournament.

The winner of the BWC is the highest honor a league can earn.

The BWC is always held at the Amorican Mountains where the sacred text of Nuffle was found.

BWC Requirements
All star teams coached by the lowest ranked teams’ coach of their respective league.

If the lowest ranked coach declines the privilege the next worst coach of that league is invited to play and so on.

At least x1 player from each existing team must be chosen for the all star team.

Initially a small number of teams will be a round robin but will expand to group and knockout phases.

This is a resurrection style event.

Major Bloodbowl Open/MBO

The Major Bloodbowl Invitational is the lower level version of the BCL and shares its format. It involves every team NOT invited to the BCL.

The winner of the MBO is still an amazing accomplishment given that its larger than the BCL, so it has an NCAA basketball March Madness Feel. It has this high stakes feel because ALL teams not in the BCL are involved, that would include the 1st division and all lower division teams of ALL leagues.

MBO Requirements
All teams that do not qualify for the BCL tournament are invited to play in the MBO

It is a massive knockout tournament and indeed is still very prestigious to win and the winner receives an autobid to next season's BCL.

It is an invitational meaning that teams can decline playing in the tournament.

Coach needs to agree on these:

  • Access to Discord
  • Public scheduling on the discord in the designated channels NOT through PMs to allow forfeiture decisionmaking and to keep people moving through the season.
  • Public prompting from me to get games scheduled.
  • No extensions besides postseason play when applicable.
  • If you are going to be away for a period of time such as a vacation or private concern, let us know. Because it will allow us to forfeit games ahead of time or provide leniency as a community to work around your schedule.
Team needs to meet these:
  • All teams need a logo.
  • All teams need a field.
  • This is not a joke league, put your heart into your team's name, and logo.
  • Every field must be complete=at least a logo.
  • The names of teams must have a city or region and followed by a nickname.
  • You can ask in Discord for help to build all these things for you. (ask an admin)
  • "I reserve the right to prohibit lewd, crass, or cringe on my discretion alone, however, it is my duty to prohibit nicely and to provide aid."-Gridironman
Temporary Bans
(2 strike rule—a commissioner must inform the person that they violated a rule and why before it is considered a strike. The 2 strikes apply to once a specific rule is violated a second time, but if three separate rules are violated then the offender must be banned for a year. The roster will be protected if the offender wishes to return, i.e. it will not be retired or sent to free agency)
Quitting during a season or postseason except for a personal/professional/familial emergency or change.
Harassing the janitorial staff (the collection of league commissioners).
Harassing other players because you are losing mid game.
Harassing other players.
Subjecting other players to how the dice are unfair continuously during a game.
Coaches will not be disallowed from joining the league, but must abide by these rules.
Coaches are not permanently banned; they may play within these associated leagues within a year.
Spamming messages on the discord.
Rubbing in a win excessively.

Permanent Bans (1 strike rule)
(No need for discussion, if any of these permanent rules are broken the offender will be immediately removed and so will their teams. If necessary, the authorities will at least be notified if the offense necessitates reporting it to law enforcement or community safety organizations)
Permanent bans involve posting something illegal or tangentially illegal in the discord. As an example, it is illegal to threaten the wellbeing of another coach and tangentially illegal to threaten the wellbeing of another coach in World of Warcraft.
Posting anything that could reasonably make someone uncomfortable in a workplace including racism, sexism, and talking politics, etcetera. In other words, if you think that you could be fired for a topic, please do not bring it up.
Inducement rules
  • Only petty cash
  • Wizard cost 300k, this is done by leaving 150k unused which gives you 3 Prayers to Nuffle
  • No Star Players
  • No famous coaching staff
  • Everything else goes for the standard price

Excel Roster
You may demote any number of active roster players to the excel at any time.

You may promote x1 player from the excel to the active roster during the season phase which ends prior to the first match of the next phase.
A season phase involves the preseason domestic tournaments, the regular season, and the postseason.
Free Agency

Any undrafted or player that has been cut from a team enters into the FA pool with their injuries.

Every offseason a single niggle is removed or a perm is turned into a niggle.

If your CTV is below 700 (699 and under) you may draw x1 player from FA to their main team.

You may not draw from FA during the postseason.

Trading

You are permitted to trade freely during the offseason, except your first round pick. Expansion draft picks are not allowed to be traded.

You are not permitted to trade during a season.

Teams engaged with a postseason are not permitted to trade until their season comes to an end.

You may trade your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round picks.

You may trade your benched players.

You may trade your onsite active roster.

NOTE: that innate skills i.e. Block, Dodge and Leap on a Wardancer will be reduced to block if the team's blitzer slot does not have access to a Wardancer. In other words, a Vampire blitzer would have all the learned and draft generated skills of the Wardancer coming in, but would have juggernaut, bloodlust, and so on. Thankfully Vampire blitzers have ST4. However, let's say that the Wardancer has a +ST learned prior to the trade--Yes the Vampire Blitzer would retain that and become ST5.
x1 Team Captain
Options

3 primary and 2 secondary skills.

1 stat up and 4 primary skills.

6 primary skills.

5 SKILL rolls

1 third/inaccessible skill and 2 primary skills.

1 Extraordinary Trait and 1 primary skill.

1 star player skill.

Team captains have to be built prior to a season.

If your team captain dies or is cut you may build a new captain prior to the new season.

If you release your captain to free agency your team cannot draw him for a "full season."

You may not trade your captain away because that would open the door to double dipping with a potential block buster trade in the offseason seemingly at a disadvantage only to make the same hero character under a different name again before the next season.
First season will have an 8 round snake draft following first come-first served principle (first to claim a place on discord)

All following seasons will be based on standings and last 4 rounds
Expansion (new) teams will be ahead of all returning teams each round and given 4 additional rounds at the end of the draft inaccessible to returning teams. Expansion team draft order is determined by first come-first served joining the discord server.

Gaining skills that the player already has
If you draft skillset that has the one or more same skills as the player has as a rookie, you receive a free SKILL roll for each such case instead of the skill.
Example: You draft a Block, Jump Up, Frenzy for a Witch Elf, you get a SKILL roll for both Jump Up and Frenzy as a rookie Witch Elf has those two already.

Gaining skills that are against the rules
Like getting Grab for a Frenzy player or Sure Hands on No Hands player
You receive a free SKILL roll instead of a the skill.

Gaining Pass skills on players with Pass stat unrepresented/6+/-
You receive a free SKILL roll instead of a pass skill.

This does NOT mean you cannot get skills out of the skills access (GASPM), only the skills that the cannot function or are against the main rules/FAQ.
Skills outside a players skill set access are allowed and they cost 40k.
For example you can draft a skillset of Catch, Prehensile Tail, Guard for a Halfling (primary A, secondary GS), but the skill set will cost 20k(PRIMARY) + 40k(OUT OF ACCESS) + 30k (SECONDARY) = 90k

Understanding Player Nomenclature

The player position naming conventions were developed to help aid a coach new to navigating the league.

The names are broken up into three categories.

Identity/Draft Category/Trade Slot

For instance, let's name the
unblocker's position on an IBA Orc team.

Unblocker/S/Blocker

He is called an unblocker normally, is drafted from the S (Strength) category of draftees and can be traded to another team with a blocker position.
Porting

In between seasons you may 'port' your current roster from one league to another by transferring your positionals to the corresponding new team race/type's positionals.

Similarly the KPA Secret league roster can take a new secret league team while staying in the league through the porting process.

The standard league team in the IBA can port their roster to another standard league team through the porting process.

The categories for porting players are below.

Passer: Any player labeled as passer. 'IF' there is not a corresponding player it can take a lineman slot.

Catcher: Any player labeled as Catcher. 'IF' there is not a corresponding player it can take a stunty slot.

Stunty: Any player with less than 3 ST. 'IF' there is not a corresponding player it can take a catcher slot.

Blitzer: Any player labeled as Blitzer. 'IF' there is not a corresponding player it can take a blocker slot.

Blocker: Any player with ST4 standard. 'IF' there is not a corresponding player it can take a blitzer slot.

Big: Any player with ST5 or higher. 'IF' there is not a corresponding player it can take a blocker slot. 'IF' both previous conditions are true then it can take a blitzer slot.

Note: Of course the amount of active slots and excel slots are limited. It means that you may need to release some players to free agency after you complete the porting process.
Rivalries

x1 Rival can be mutually declared.

You do not lose a rival until they leave the league for another or the BCL entirely.

No rivalry is allowed until season 2 because you need to feel the hatred.

Once every other team is paired up mutually the remaining teams match as rivals more or less voluntarily because every team NEEDS a rival for rivalry spp access.

A rival must exist within your current league.

A rival can be in an upper or lower league division than your team.

Winner from the previous year retains a jpeg of a trophy if they win or draw their match with their rival. If they lose they must remove the trophy and the other team now has the trophy jpeg on their page.

You do not lose a rival until you or they leave the league or the BCL entirely.

An attacking player is rewarded +3 spp for a kill from a foul.

An Attacking player is rewarded +2 spp for a badly hurt, MNG, Stat-, or n injury from a foul.
Deadpool Contracts
The winner of an end of season award from the prior season or a legendary player (6 skills) will have a bounty on their head. The slaying of these players through CAS or Foul will net the killer with 12 spp.

The winner of the end of season award from the previous season cannot be benched to excel during the current season.

The prior year award winning players are considered Pests. It may be fun to track how many Pests you remove.

Non-award winning Legendary players are referred to as Problems. It may be fun to track how many Problems you remove.

Award winning legendary players are referred to as High Value Targets. It may be fun to track how many High Value Targets you remove.

The legendary players can be benched to excel unless they won an end of season award. Such a player nets the assassin with 24 spp.
Uniforms
Red and Blue are standard.

However, custom icons are optional but must be provided by the coach that wants a unique uniform or by a friend of the league that can do it with little strain during the process, because it is an intensive labor of love.

Please do not create new sprites/icons. For the sake of clarity, recolor the icons/sprites of the positions they are replacing. In other words, the recolored high elf lineman must be that icon/sprite but with your PRIMARY COLOR predominating instead of the standard color (it should be the most represented color on the uniform).

If you want the predominant color of another player please take that up with the otehr player, I do not want to intercede on that bargaining process.

There is territoriality over the PREDOMINANT color of the uniform. Uniforms may have a PREDOMINANT COLOR, SECONDARY COLOR, PIPING COLOR, and ARMOR COLOR. There is no territoriality over these colors only the PREDOMINANT COLOR.

Dark blue i.e. standard site away uniforms are off limits; additionally, the color white is off limits because white is our away uniform for icons/sprites.

To be clear, Say that a predominant color is beechwood brown and a secondary color is canary yellow on one team. It is perfectly fine for another team to be predominantly canary yellow with a beechwood brown secondary. The Predominant color is always different.

Uniform quality entails shading according to the original sprites shadowing.

All custom uniforms away colors involve white shirts. The original royal blue can work

Patterns like a cross, checkerboard etcetera are allowed, but must be shaded properly.

Ultimately, this is for the coach's enjoyment, but also the ability for other coaches to discern which sprites belong to their team and their opponents. I do not have the bandwith to make uniforms for all teams. I wish that there was someone that could rapidly make uniforms for us that has the time, but that is not a given. However, if we follow these guidelines we will be able to allow teams to have uniforms if their coach wants unique uniforms. I will likely make my own eventually--because its fun, gives you as sense of ownership, and actually pretty nice to look at. Thereby, custom uniforms are preferred and promoted; but are not at all necessary.
Healing
A healing step involves a single stat decrease turning into a niggling injury or a niggling injury being removed completely.
A stat decrease must be healed prior to a deletion of a niggling injury. However, there is a hierarchy of healing for perms that must be removed first, for example a -AV must be turned into a niggling injury prior to attending to a -AG.
-AV>-PA>-MA>-AG>-ST>N.
Players on the active roster may heal a step automatically at the end of the postseason. Players on the reserve roster heal a step at the end of every season phase.
A season phase involves the preseason domestic tournaments, the regular season, and the postseason.
Shared Assets Across Leagues
The Free Agent Pool
will be shared.

Drafting
will occur at the same time across all leagues with picks being allocated first to expansion teams in the order of them having a placeholder team onsite. Secondly by the lower division teams (division 3 comes before division 2) from least to first by universal standings from the prior year.

Trades
may occur across all leagues i.e. all draft generated and learned skills remain. However, innate skills such as block, dodge and leap on a wardancer piece will go away to a human team, however, this piece would take a blitzer slot and retain the innate block skill.

The Excel sheet accessible through the discord has a tab that enables this process.

There will be two flights of drafts to speed the process up which will fill the draft orders of both with a snake draft, for instance, the worst team in the unified standings will have the first pick in flight A, FLight B will then take the 2nd worst as first and 3rd worst as 2nd and so on.

Key skills will be mirrored between the two. Block, guard, dodge, and tackle will be distributed evenly across the drafts.

Freezing
If you leave the league but intend to come back at a later time the team is essentially frozen until the season that you return, prior to the season you will take turns with other new teams "drafting" free agents to fill the remainder of your active roster with skills.
Illegal skills are provided a free SKILL Roll for Ball and Chain Users

Per the FAQ (as of November 2023):
Q: What happens if a player rolls a random Skill and gains one that they could take, but cannot actually use? Such as if a player with the No Hands trait gained the Catch skill. (p.74)
A: In these instances, roll again until they gain a Skill they could actually use.

Skills for Ball and Chain players fall into a couple of categories, and here are the ones Disallowed or Cannot Use, and thus ones that can (and should) be rolled as a SKILL result when drafting:

**General**
- __Dirty Player__, Cannot Use (Per FAQ confirmation, B&C cannot foul)
- __ Frenzy__, Disallowed
- __Shadowing__, Disallowed
- __ Sure Hands__, Cannot Use (No Hands)
**Strength**
- __Break Tackle__, Cannot Use (Does not roll to "dodge")
- __Grab__, Disallowed
- __Juggernaut__, Cannot Use (May not Blitz)
- __Multiple Block__, Disallowed

REGULAR SEASON LEAGUES



Concept:
Premiership League
The Naggaroth Football League (NFL) is a rotating premiership. The term rotating premiership is coined here to describe the function of this league. The regular season champions of all other leagues from the previous season will play their season in this premiership. It means that no team will play in the NFL consecutive seasons unlike real world premier leagues in European football. It allows new teams to have a chance to win their domestic league while the regular season champ from the prior season is a way and allows the best teams to clash with each other in a high level competition. Since the qualifier for this league involves winning the team’s domestic league, there will be no teams with back to back seasons in the NFL.
Four NFL teams qualify for the BCL tournament, if a team is in the top four and wins the NFL preseason tournament then three other teams qualify. If the NFL preseason tournament winner is outside of the top four then the top 3 teams in the regular season standings qualify with it. The next runner up goes to the AMI and remaining worst team to the MBO.

Naggaroth Football League Theme and Background:
Naggaroth is where bloodbowl was originally invented as a team sport usually sponsored by companies and manned by their employees. It could not be described as a professional league but more of a series of intramural muscular Christianity movements in real life that usually involved baseball was played for the sake of good health in 1800s US as a moral good. The times have changed and now Naggaroth is a world power and home to the greatest super league, they call it the NFL.

The NFL’s member teams change each cycle. It comprises of teams that have won their home league’s prior regular season.

You may ask yourself why is this worth the trouble of playing such hard competition? All members even if they are winless automatically qualify for the BCL postseason tournament.

Like all other leagues there is a preseason league segregated tournament too, but this is more for the glory and the opportunity at a Triple Crown or Thruple in British football parlance. However, once the association of leagues reaches its cap (10) it will then forego the playoff and just take its place as something more prestigious. After the 5th game of the 9 game NFL season in this scenario it will have a free heal as if the teams went through a seasonal phase and then again after the 9th game so that injury roll events are consistent across all leagues in terms of number.

Naggaroth is in universe considered the United States of America but to an extreme in terms of consumer culture, fiat currency and a passion for Bloodbowl [SIC] (American football).

The UFL is the national league of Ulthuan.

The UFL wants to represent their national character in an elvish manner. In other words, only elves are invited with the rare exception of Treemen and Spites
Ulthuan First League Theme and Background:
The sport of Bloodbowl was originally codified in Naggaroth and the old regulations are best represented in Arabya currently, but the Ulthuan First League is the first professional Bloodbowl league. The UFL is tradition laden but has evolved into being the highest scoring league with an emphasis on the forward pass and thrown teammate in which teams have been known to score on their first play after receiving a kickoff often creating an electric atmosphere. UFL fans exhibit a general distaste for other leagues and are most adversely affected when their teams lose international competitions against what they would consider inferior opponents. The luxuriant domes that UFL teams play in used to be fully domed, but now adhere to BCL Association regulations to allow weather to come in with an always retracted ceiling. The competition between UFL teams is a matter of honor between the aristocratic families that sponsor these teams as a competitive outlet, and it is the Phoenix King himself who sponsors the national team in the BWC all-star games.

Ulthuan teams are comprised of the most talented elven players throughout the world and although class plays less of a role than it otherwise would in elven society it is meant to showcase elf superiority as a sporting showcase. The majority of players are from Ulthuan due to their hardy nature and all around skillset, it is not uncommon to see players of Athel Loren heritage, Naggaroth, and other elven domains throughout the world. However, discerning fans may notice that Treemen and Spites are tolerated due to their integration into elven society.

Ulthuan is the Atlantis of this world, and is known as the most technologically advanced civilization. The government system is technically a kingdom, but there are a number of petty regnant rulers that rule petty kingdoms that are essentially subordinate duchies to the Phoenix King, in other words the unified Ulthuan continent in practice is an empire. It is a mercantile empire similar to how the British Empire had been a technologically advanced distributor of finished products at the height of its prosperity. However, the culture itself is modeled after the Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire if said empire was an Australia sized continent. It should be noted that the culture is very closely associated with ancient Greece.

This league wants to define itself as unique in respects to the more mainline leagues, in other words, this league is populated by unbanned Secret League Teams.
Kislev Premier Alliance Theme and Background:
The northern plains of Kislev and Norsca play host to a league that exhibits the most diverse styles of play. The field is constructed on a pair of massive cogs roped together at midfield with stands built onto each ships semi-oval making a complete bowl for spectators. Interestingly, the KPA developed as an annual Ice Festival event during the evening between a Norsca and Kislev team as a sign of kinship, after the other attractions of the day past fans would head to their assigned ships. Nowadays, each KPA member has their own cog borne out of the funds derived from traveling circuses and other attractions to help advertise for their sponsor band of performers. The people of Norsca and Kislev are highly passionate to observe the acrobatics and gritty pride displayed afield.

The players themselves work as traveling performers during the offseason which in turn trains them to be well rounded elite athletes because the traveling performer companies cannot dedicate the capital to separating their KPA and traditional businesses in the past. Nowadays, the teams of the KPA are flush with cash, but prefer the traditional manner of training their athletes for stage and field, because the results of such a regimen speaks for itself. The life of a performing athlete is one of the few ways for the serfs of the land to elevate into a considerably comfortable lifestyle, so the applicants to these teams are many and of an elite nature.

The KPA could be described as being a similar setting to eastern and northern Europe with a tsarist Russia governing style. The fishing villages of the north, and the arable farmlands of the east are the predominant communities of the land. However, the river based inland trade posts have developed into having a quite varied way of life. Certainly, there are palatial estates, but the aristocracy is unable to preoccupy itself with the combat by proxy of Bloodbowl being much more focused on protecting the land as their end of the bargain with the people against the hordes of chaos, and in truth most often view Bloodbowl as being beneath their station. The Tzarina sees the value in the sport, because of the outlet it provides the common folk of her domain.

Since this is the mainline nation then standard GW teams will populate it. Additionally teams that once existed like Bretonnian and Slann are also applicable.
Imperial Bloodbowl Association Theme and Background:
The Imperial Bloodbowl Association is widely considered to be the most properly played league within the BCL association, but do not let that fool you because there is a great deal of team variety on display. The teams play on the now preferred astrogranite turf to a team in great city based stadiums. The IBA is the standard in terms of running a league as a business endeavor. It is the most viewed Bloodbowl league in the world. It should be noted it was the first to prohibit the use of illegal performance enhancers seen in other leagues.

The athletes are almost to a man trained at the NCBA level and scouted to join an IBA team in a draft, it is this manner of recruitment that was adopted uniformly by all BCL associated leagues; although other leagues have more diverse recruitment methods than this one. Players must complete several years of college Bloodbowl before they are allowed to enter the IBA draft of yesteryear and the current BCL draft. The IBA is one of the younger leagues, but is the trend setter decidedly.

The league has the imperial seal of approval, but it is independent of the imperial bureaucracy in this Germanic Holy Roman Empire style nation. The teams are similarly formatted into a corporate structure, but are owned as family businesses; the current head of the family is the face of the franchise. US based sports leagues best represent how the IBA is formatted in the real world. That being said, the teams may represent independent burgs, up to entire regions that operate as independent countries within the empire almost entirely. However, Bloodbowl provides imperial citizens with a sense of shared cultural belonging and entertainment.

Arabyan Football League theme:
The AFU is the Continental League of Araby and Southlands played out by all sorts of greenskins (Orcs, hobgoblins, goblins, trolls).
Teams must be located in Araby or Southlands or active in the continent believably.
Arabyan Football Union Theme and Background:
The Arabyan Southlands is where the hardest hitting bloodbowl is played and the crowds love the smash mouth style being played. It could be described as the kind of real world savagery seen during the initial rules phase for American Football. Specifically, people needed to cry down i.e. tap out before a play ends, ballcarriers can be thrown forward, rugby kicks are forward passes, forward passes are still experimental and it is mostly a war on grass. The brutality of this league is further enhanced by the usage of weapons.

Arabyan teams are manned by janissaries that have shown high end athletic prowess. In universe, orcs are press ganged to become janissaries and indeed endure all the negative features and privileges associated with that kind of real world background. Arabyan citizens would never endure the savagery displayed on an AFU field but staunchly support their home teams.

Arabya and Southlands is in universe Libya during the Moammar Gaddafi era in which there is an intermingling of pan Arabyanism and oil based true communism (?) but expanded to encompass an entire continent being irl Africa. In universe, this mish mash of the Arab and African cultures is what African nations hope to become and likely will soon become in terms of being powerful nations economically but as an empire. The system of government is decidedly a caliphate i.e. a government polity informed by the Muslim faith.

The real world example of Lustria would be a mix of the Middle and the South American native cultures and European explorers during the time of exploration.

This means the teams are made of tales and gossips where big and small creatures from the Old World and mysterious New World alike mix in with tales of golden cities and never ending jungles.
Xtreme Lustrian Bloodbowl Theme and Background:
Lustria lacks the regulations that govern the other major blood bowl leagues of the world purposefully. In fact, you will find that the rules that govern their style of bloodbowl are meant to make the game bloodier, more action packed and intense. The ballcarriers are given special treatment aiding mad dashes and being thrown in the air like rag dolls towards the endzone to score. Steroids are not just permitted but required of all other players to enhance the brutality of hits endured by recipients of bone crushing blocks. It is true that other leagues look down on them and even refer to them as stunty, but this is the most viewed league because it is such a trainwreck that one simply cannot miss a match. Accelerants that are considered illegal throughout most of the world and indeed Lustria are provided to the ball carriers to keep the pace of play frenetic.

Lustrian teams are manned by some of the best running backs across all leagues due to being difficult to knock to the ground. The hitters are massive and outnumber the big guys seen on most other bloodbowl teams. Lustrian citizens may look the other way about how this was brought about, because they are prideful of how impressive their teams are in comparison to other leagues.

Lustria is in universe a kind of wild west where everything goes because the nations that have colonized it are unable to really administer the land outside of the port cities, and still turn a blind eye to the local sports teams juicing antics. The relatively centralized states governed by the local indigenous population have taken to the sport and in fact the shared interest in the XLB is stabilizing relations with the world powers that have established port towns around the continent. In universe, this mish mash of settler colonial city states, indigenous national team, and even teams backed by multinational companies with a charter to colonize. The unregulated nature of team establishment oddly adds to the novelty of the league.

The TSC is the national league of Tilea

Teams must be located in Tilea or the Border Princes’ Region. If not, the team must at least be active in the Tilean or Border Princes’ regions believably

The TSC is comprised of former tradesmen apprentices primarily that have distinguished themselves on the pitch during training regimens to such an extent that the local families sponsor their career as athletes. The player recruitment system is similar to European Football’s method of training athletes in their childhood into becoming professional athletes.

Tilean Super Confederation Theme and Background:
The most impassioned fans of Bloodbowl frequent the local coliseums of the TSC. The sport of Bloodbowl in the region is distinctly well balanced and is generally considered to be the most stock version of the sport in the sense that the game is very well regulated with similar style teams that can adapt to a variety of strategies. It is the Tilean style of Bloodbowl that is played at the BWC national team level due to how advanced the tight regulations are in the TSC it was the natural choice for the BWC. Most observers of the sport readily support the concept that the best coached teams generally win the TSC because of the ubiquity of the rosters. However, some people say that the best funded teams win more often.

The impressive strength of rowers often populates the hardier positions within the league, while local millers, smithies and any number of would be tradesmen tend to be recruited as athletes to these teams. However, if the athlete is sponsored, they will see a sequestered life in Bloodbowl youth academies. They are provided room and board, but will start earning quite the sum of money once they are deemed worthy of manning a spot on the roster whether that be the playing squad or bench.

The locations of Tilea and Border Princes comprises an area allegorical to Italy, Greece and the Balkans. The teams themselves closely resemble those of European football. However, the owners of the clubs most closely resemble Italian patron families of the Renaissance that echoed the pater familias social system of the Roman Empire. The patrons’ prestige is tied to the glorification of their city state whether it be of the arts, trade, or in this case sporting excellence. City pride is much more salient in TSC team fans as an adding context to their team pride being in some ways fanatical even when compared to fans of other leagues.


The Royal Bretonnian federation is a Chaos Blocker draft league with developing players.

You draft skilled players from a draft pool with your rival coaches in the drafting phase. Then you make a team captain and fill the team with 16 players with rookies
After that you are ready to play.

For example, you may have an unskilled Bull Centaur blocker occupying one of your four active blocker slots.
An equal amount of blocker types will generate skills for each draft. Meaning that a blank bull centaur may not be as strong as a drafted Bloodseeker blocker with 4 skills.
TV does not account for hiring fees, in other words, only the draft generated or learned skills account for TV.
Corresponding involves player specifications for drafting (passers are drafting from the P skill pool, etc.) and trading to positional slots to multiple team types.

The RBF is the national league of Bretonnia and Albion
Teams must be located in Bretonnia or Albion. If not, the team must at least be active in the Bretonnian or Albion regions believably

The RBF is comprised of royal knights that have distinguished themselves on the pitch during training regimens to such an extent that they have taken a vow to represent Bretonnia, therefore only a certain type of athlete is on display in this league.
Royal Bretonnian Federation Theme and Background:
The RBF is considered the progenitor of international competitions, as a matter of fact the Grand Tournament of the past is the modern day Major Bloodbowl Open. The game is played on the same fields as the well worn jousting turnbuckles in between the ramshackle wooden stands for the public with the only luxury box going to the presiding noble who must vacate that spot to the king if he is currently touring that region of the realm. The RBF almost did not qualify for the BCL association of leagues due to a limited amount of revenues and potential revenue, but it was selected due to being the most tradition laden league in the world. Truth be told, the match is much more of a skirmish with endzones, but that is why diehard fans love this style of play. The royal family is quite enthusiastic to bankroll the sport when need be, but it is not by any means a prime priority when it comes to managing their realm.

Simply the best Bloodbowlers of an organization of knights play in this league, and it is held in similar prestige as their best jousters. Family heritage, knightly vows, and winnings compel RBF players to play the game with great ardor. The peasants of the realm attend these events for the pageantry, violence, and diversion from their daily duties.

The Angevin Empire best describes the setting of the RBF, with the sports clubs being tied to baronies, knightly orders, and other knightly organizations. It is considered a group melee of sorts in which the field is more of a hand to hand battle between evenly numbered teams. The competition is not designed to be lethal necessarily, but some of the most brutal non-weapon based injuries and indeed deaths occur in the RBF. . .
