As before, they came armed with the services of a wizard, longbeards that hospitalise our ball carriers and yet other longbeards with beards so long there's no room to dodge.
And yet again the lads had one of those unavoidable days that bring on the hurt. We had good chances and even popped the ball from those hobs twice in the first half, but three early turnovers left most of the team marked and brought on the pain.
Then with the fear and desperation brought on by the spate of dodging and blocking failures, Coach broke one of the Wraithlord's golden rules. Scarlet Noble was left on the sideline to tie up a key player rather than given the chance to dodge out and return to mark him from a safer position. Alas, it too went awry, as well as the defence which saw his efforts go for naught as the Comics scooped the ball up in Turn 8 for the try.
Half time was good for the lads as the heavily crowded KO bin mostly cleared, but a failed rr gfi on their very first move of the half buried them as they commenced their drive. The next 5 turns were a blur as the team still struggled to dodge and got mercilessly pounded. Despite it all, they managed to get the ball downfield and threaten to score. The ball changed hands twice in the flurry of action and it was only a desperately risky use of the apothecary on a badly hurt ball carrier that finally enabled the Wraithlords to regain the ball and score the leveller.
Scores tied and three turns left. The Wraithlords got a Blitz on the kickoff, but alas it was wasted as we didn't have the elves to make any use of it. It finally came down to a vital throw by the hobs on turn 16, and at last they failed a ball play!
So we escape with a 1-1 draw....yet again!”
