#11 Konrad Petersen – Smashed Knee (NI)
#11 Konrad Petersen – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#8 Faustmann Kahl – Dead (RIP)
After a first outing against Dwarven foes, the Vanguards were a few men down from the starting roster. What better than a friendly game against the Halflings to get everyone's stamina back to what it should be? Well plenty better infact...
Before the match some rather obscure cooking favoured the Halflings and left the Vanguard reeling in the locker room... (3 TRRs each went to 1TRR for me and 5 for the Halflings, not to worry though eh?)

The game started sedately enough with a good spot of blitzing & blocking opening up the wide defence of the halflings. An early touch down down to the sterling dodging from the wide receiver. 1-0 Vanguards.

A bizzarre array of stumbling and general ball handling errors on both teams, amidst the crunching of jaws and removal of armour lead to an opening deep into the first half for the Splats. Several Halflings go down, but the steadfast trees pound more of the Vanguards into the turf. All that's left to do is hop, skip and do the celebratory waggle dance in the end zone.

The second half comes with much trepidation as both teams are down a couple of players, most notably the ever agile Faustmann Kahl being killed by a swinging branch catching him the wrong way (having previously used the doc on another death) Deep defence by the Vanguards stops an easy score from the Splats and it comes down to Leopold "greasy mitts" Vogel to dump the ball back upfield to keep it out of harms way. 7 passes and only 3 completions from very short ranged passes left a sour look on the coaches face. Needless to say that the ever willing Splats came back with a vengeance to be hurled downfield by an over eager tree. Remarkably enough, he lands on his feet closer to the end zone than intended and only has to go for it once. Touchdown scored and the Vanguards have that sinking feeling once more.

Last down of the match and the Splats punt the ball downfield towards Leopold again, this time however he manages to not only pick up the ball but complete a pass, injury time could've saved the draw but it wasn't to be...

A hard fought game and perhaps an unfair result depending on the viewpoint of the fan, but still, they sure got their moneys worth!

-=[Press release from the Vanguards]=-
It's with a heavy heart that after 2 big defeats and a severe loss of players due to unforseen deaths and injuries, that the general manager has decided to retire the vanguards until further notice.

#15 Head first in the stand – Serious Concussion (-AV)
9 men humans wanting a recovery against a new Fling team with Deeproot and a wizard... forgone conclusion? Not so!

An amazing game, because it shows how utterly utterly garbage the luck meter is. I had 77% at the end of the 1st half, VL had in the 50s, but everything I tried that needed higher than a 4 failed miserably with Rerolls.

A blitz against me, cas and ko galore, and 77% staring at me.

Then my human opponents started taking the p!ss by dodging in the midst of multiple tackle zones in the 2nd half, whilst my team dwindled further.

Getting late on in the game at 1-0 down, 2 flings left on the field, though at least Deeproot had nailed a couple of humans (sorry about that - hardly a recovery for you) and I decide to try the improbable. Dodge, not too hard. Move into 2 TZ, pick ball up.

Comes off, no rr. Dodge again into a tz, ok, then throw - yeah, a fling throwing, to another fling in a tz.

Catches the ball (no rr), dodges and scores.

At 1-1 the result would have been fair I think.

Then with a couple of turns left the humans fumble the ball deep in their half, allowing the flings to get near... splat. Well, not for long.

Ball gets passed downfield, missthrow...

Sweat on Meetgrinders head...

Dodge, block with a fling (2db though)... yes! A knockdown.

Dodge again... yes... scoop ball up, hand off... rr needed! Arggh!

Throw team mate, turn 8, Half 2, game at stake. A fair draw or unworthy win?

Throw... throw is inaccurate!

Arggh!

But ... what's this? A land on his feet! And closer to the End zone so no GFI needed!

Score! The crowd goes wild!

(Ok, i did)

Great sport NMcAndrew - for a long time it looked like a one sided brutalising halfling bashtastic death killing spree, the way my guys were getting mashed up, and in the 2nd half virtually every dodge until late on ended the turn with a fling in the dugout!

Deeproot was very very useful, and only one take root all game from the other trees, so I guess luck wasn't that bad, but it's strange that when I pulled off all the hard stuff from turn 5 H2 on, my luck started to go down?

Weird.

Great game - really enjoyed that after several ass rapes lately. Rematch when we've both recovered? Good luck with the Legion!
