Before the match some rather obscure cooking favoured the Halflings and left the Vanguard reeling in the locker room... (3 TRRs each went to 1TRR for me and 5 for the Halflings, not to worry though eh?)
The game started sedately enough with a good spot of blitzing & blocking opening up the wide defence of the halflings. An early touch down down to the sterling dodging from the wide receiver. 1-0 Vanguards.
A bizzarre array of stumbling and general ball handling errors on both teams, amidst the crunching of jaws and removal of armour lead to an opening deep into the first half for the Splats. Several Halflings go down, but the steadfast trees pound more of the Vanguards into the turf. All that's left to do is hop, skip and do the celebratory waggle dance in the end zone.
The second half comes with much trepidation as both teams are down a couple of players, most notably the ever agile Faustmann Kahl being killed by a swinging branch catching him the wrong way (having previously used the doc on another death) Deep defence by the Vanguards stops an easy score from the Splats and it comes down to Leopold "greasy mitts" Vogel to dump the ball back upfield to keep it out of harms way. 7 passes and only 3 completions from very short ranged passes left a sour look on the coaches face. Needless to say that the ever willing Splats came back with a vengeance to be hurled downfield by an over eager tree. Remarkably enough, he lands on his feet closer to the end zone than intended and only has to go for it once. Touchdown scored and the Vanguards have that sinking feeling once more.
Last down of the match and the Splats punt the ball downfield towards Leopold again, this time however he manages to not only pick up the ball but complete a pass, injury time could've saved the draw but it wasn't to be...
A hard fought game and perhaps an unfair result depending on the viewpoint of the fan, but still, they sure got their moneys worth!
-=[Press release from the Vanguards]=-
It's with a heavy heart that after 2 big defeats and a severe loss of players due to unforseen deaths and injuries, that the general manager has decided to retire the vanguards until further notice.”
