“A game against an under-strength Vampire team (including Morley's taking the star Vamp out of action for most of the game) left the Vanguards with a feeling of optimism for the game.
Kickoff and the crowd go wild, litterally, taking out several players with rocks and the ball falling to Sigurd standing on the LOS with a relatively empty pitch ahead of him. A couple of blocks, and a blitz later, the Vanguards are poised for a turn 2 score. Going for it into the end zone results in a double snake eyes and a Stunned Sigurd (more shame of falling over than breaking his armour I think)
Some to-ing and fro-ing results in the Vamps marching the ball down field a fair bit. A rerolled 2 BD blitz results in a spilled ball with Stephan ready to scoop the ball up and make a mad dash. 1-0 turn 5 and Vanguards kick off.
A sterling drive down the left hand side of the pitch results in vanguards falling over repeatedly, with Sven somehow resisting a 3 man DP assisted foul. Another spilled ball gets picked up by Herbert Festland and the Vamp team go on to show an impressive display of regrouping and dodging into a prime scoring location. An attempt at cracking the cage results in a 2BD Skull & Pushback rerolled to a Skull Pushback. Herbert Sidesteps out of the way with a wicked grin on his face, ever nearer to the Vanguards' endzone. Turn 7, the score is levelled with Herbert going for it into the endzone, a well made and deserved equalizer.
End of the first half and Morley lets the vamp back onto the pitch for some last turn mayhem. Mayhem ensues with Garthe receiving a serious injury after going for it (someone remind him to tie his laces next game) though good fortune shines on him as the Apoc manages to stop him from an embarressing injury.
Second half begins with Morley yet again taking out the star Vamp and a breaking rain cloud threatens to stop the questionable arm of Henrik from delivering the goods. A faultless pickup, pass and catch has Stephan on the LOS ready for some dashing. Burgh earns his keep after flattening Prof. Dr. Alphonse and taking the pressure off of the running team. Needless to say the Str 4 Thrall had something to say about it all and hit back at the oncoming Vanguards. Unfortunately the 6 remaning players of the Vamp team weren't able to stop the march down the field for the second Vanguard score.
An interesting game this, which could've gone very differently if not for a few rolls here and there.”
