Starting out quickly with a relatively clean TD from the Vanguards the game turned from a pushfest into a bloodbath. Knockouts and Badly Hurts were the order of the day as the number of players on the pitch gradually reduced.
With fewer Vanguards on the pitch, the Skaven had their chance to snatch a very unlikely equalizer on the stroke of halftime. The ball on the deck one square into the Skaven's half, 3 Vanguards surrounding it, including 1 block/guard blitzer and Burgh the guarding ogre. 1D pow and a rerolled 1D pushback clear 2 of the tacklezones for the nimble footed vermin to pounce. A successful pickup and dodge let him scamper down into the rightfield of the virually deserted Vanguard half. A pass to the furthest down Skaven results in a fumbled catch which happens to bounce onto the other Skaven standing beside him and he manages to catch the ball. He runs his 7 yards down the pitch, goes for it, and scores on turn 8. Gutted wasn't the word...
Second half starts with some heavy hitting from the Skaven leaving holes throughout the Vanguards line of defence after kicking off. A cage is formed around the ball carrier on left field, the cage advances and slowly gets pulled apart. Exposing the linesman holding the ball, leaving him open for a blitz from the halfway line after a rerolled dodge. The ball drops 4 yards from the endzone with a fair bit of coverage from both sides. A couple of 1D POW & Pushbacks, clear a tacklezone ready for a linerat to run in, pick up and score. 2-1 to the Skaven in T11.
A resolute group of Hillsman blitzers ready themselves for a drive up leftfield with Henrik's successful pickup and pass to Stephan. A loose cage is formed which makes it's way down the outfield in 2 more turns. Score is levelled up in T14, but at the cost of Burgh taking a Broken Jaw defending the Line of Scrimmage.
Turn 8 results in exchanged blocks but no more casualties. 2-2 was a fair score for the way both teams played today. I may have felt a bit griped about the equaliser in T8, but you've got to roll with the punches I suppose...
Very pleasant coach to play against, with no fouls commited by either team even though we both had the ref after the Skaven's second TD.
