#12 Malquetzel of the Eastern Stage – Smashed Hip (-MA)
“Not the most impressive opening game for the Beatnicks imaginable.
I just returned from vacations so my coaching was a little rusty - the fact that 2 consecutive turns began with a 2d turnover and turned an almost certain 1-0 into 0-1 didn't help either. A touchback with 2 turns left seemed to be a good opertunity to equalize but as the block to clear the way showed up as a failed block it wasn't to be.
We managed to snatch the ball from the orcs as they recieved and managed to make it 1-1 in the 3rd turn.
The orcs recieved again and we managed to get 2 Sauri on the ball carrier who managed to dodge away, however, hand-off and transport the ball to the other side of the field without a RR. The orcs had run out of RRs one turn earlier.
The Beatnicks managed to get a 2d block on the would-be scorer but only managed to push him back. 2 GFIs and a 1d Block later the orcs had advanced the ball.
I marked the ball-carrier with a Saurus and tried to completely block the way to score with skinks but an early failed dodge put an end to those dreams. 2 more GFIs later and another 1d block later (a 50/50 for a knock down (otherwise it would have required a dodge to get the ball carrier loose) and the ball was in my EZ - in the grasp of an Orc Blitzer.
I set up my offence wrong and thanks to some dodgey orcs I failed to get the equalizer with no RRs left.
Not the worst imaginable game upon my return - and the winnings were decent.
