“It was a great day for Running Rugby out there today. The ball went to Da Greenz first up and the backline was tested but not broken. The ball was spilt in a backfield fumble by the Orcs and the Rugby lads arrived at the breakdown in numbers, forcing the ball free into the hands of Campese who threw a cutout ball which bounced to Nathan Grey for the points.
Kicking again to the Greenz produced a similar result with the Rugby line again proving tough to break. The ball carrier was tackled neatly near the half and large ruck formed. It was George Greegan who emerged from the side of this with the well won ball and he raced clear to score.
Going on the offensive in the second half the Rugby lads relished the chance to move the ball about a bit and run at their opposition. The kick was taken by Larkham who passed it infield to Jason Little. The Orcs closed shut down the middle of the field smartly though and pulled the centre into a maul, but not before he popped it to Jonah Lomu who maori sidestepped the winger and found space on the left. Again a maul formed but again the miracle ball was popped to Frank Bunce who crossed the 22 with good support on both sides. But nothing could stop Bunce's run as he ran right over the top of the fullback to score.
3-0 it was and this time the Orcs were tied into a very physical ruck right on the halfway line. It was looking like they'd be stopped again but the ball was gathered by Gruggnash M. and thrown to Varag who stepped a few defenders and ran into space in the middle of the field. The cover defence closed near the goal line but the try saving tackle avoided by a neat side step as Varag crossed under the posts to make it three tries to one.
Good game.”
