“Once again, it is proved that all the luck given to me by the gods has been concentrated into this Northlands team. My opponent had a better team, and played better than me, and still lost.
My opponent scored relatively easily on his first possession, as my tackleless orcs (tackle players recently/dead/retired) were no match on defense against an ag4 blodgy ghoul. His drive was punctuated by a death on both our sides.
My slow-moving orcs had four turns to equalize, which really wasn't enough. Some very nice die rolls put me in a situation where two gfis (sans reroll), would give me a score, but of course I missed the second.
So I started the 2nd half realistically hoping to tie. I moved the ball up, and my opponent was managing his blocks a bit better than I was. In desperation, I tried to shift my slow moving thrower who had the ball to the other side of the field, but he still was close enough to a mummy where the big guy could blitz him after a couple of marking players had been shed with other blocks. All he needed was a gfi to make the blitz...which he not only failed but knocked his own mummy out of the game. The thrower was in the clear, sort of...he was still slow as molasses and the fleet footed ghouls could catch him. Fortunately for me, the mummy's mistake put me in a situation where I had more players near the ball, and though he managed a two dier to knock the ball lose deep in his own end, I had the manpower next turn to knock away the pesky ghouls, pick up the ball and score.
That left my opponent three turns to try to score for the win. This is where his luck went from shaky to Satanically bad. It started with a blitz--The slow orcs couldn't reach the ball deep in the undead's end, but they could blitz through and get a blitzer into enemy territory. I elected not to commit many resources to this ball chase since it was likely that his AG4 blodger would simply scoop up the ball and run by me, and I needed to maintain containment on the rest of the field.
Of course, his AG 4 couldn't pick up the ball. My sole blitzer threw a one dier, pushing another player out of the way, scooped up the ball, and ran towards the goal line. Of course, he still could chase me down for a two dier, but at least he won't win, I thought. The two dier was a double push. Reroll: double push. He moved in another player to hem in the ball carrier.
A one die blitz and a dodge later and I had won the game. My opponent was...well...not pleased. I can't say that I blame him. A rematch would probably yield a different result. At least until I get some tacklers... ”
