“The Gypsies (3-0-1) took on the undefeated Lightning Wanderers (4-0-0). And though the Gypsies didn't win, neither did the Wanderers!
This was a tough, well played game all around. In an odd display of deja vu, Cougar failed to complete a pass on the first drive of the game. The Gypsies struggled to get the ball back, but it was to no avail... the Wanderers would score.
Down players, the Wanderers were EVERYWHERE. Every hit lead to a sidestep into a better position for them. It took multiple players to box in every one of them and the elves kept finding the holes in the lines. Still, the Gypsies were able to stop their drive in the second half and drive the ball up the field.
In an amazing display of teamwork, the Gypsies worked their way to their endzone, desperate for a tie. Ben Brimstone once again stepped up to do what needed to be done. He caught the ball when the Gypsy ball carrier was knocked down. Dodging away from two elves, he pushed himself down the field and threw a perfect spiral to the only Gypsy open: Devin McDamage. Devin caught the ball and pushed hard to get to the endzone making it 1-1!
In the final moments of the game, the Gypsies blitzed in on their own kick and caught the ball. It wasn't enough, though and time would run out before they could attempt a game winning drive.
Though the fans took the lack of a win very seriously, Coach Ryce was satisfied to walk away from this with a tie. In his words, "We came into this game planning to take away the Wanderers' undefeated ranking and we did... sort of."
