“After advancing in through the 1st round due to a no-show by my opponent, I moved on to meet the Skaven sporting a one-turner.
The rats make good use of him and score on the 1st turn of the game after punching a hole through my 3-4-4 defense. I receive and quickly get the ball up into a cage. I fight back and forth and grind my way down within gfi scoring range on my turn 7. Here I make a tactical error.
I decided to try and stall out his final turn instead of scoring to avoid any chance of the one-turner making it 2-1 before the half. Unfortunately, I leave my ghoul exposed enough that he is able to get a good shot at him after some gfi's and knock the ball out. The ball pops into his hands and I'm unable to free it for the score on turn #8. So the half ends with me down 0-1.
I should have just scored and set up a deep defense to make him dodge through multiple tz's for any chance at a score. I also may have been able to make a foul on his gutter runner if he failed a dodge. Bah! Hindsight is 20/20 - a lesson for the next time I'm faced with the same situation.
Anyways, he stops my long 2nd half drive and tries to swing the ball the other way. After some blocks to try and clear a path, I wind up dodging twice through one tz and get the pow on my 2-die on his gutter runner. I scoop up the ball, survive a blitz, and scamper back into scoring range. I make 2 gfi's to equalize on my final turn. His attempt at a one-turn score fails on the 1st dodge.
Rats win the OT coinflip and set up to end it. The ko result is a perfect defense and I jam my mummies in front of the one-turner. He throws blocks down my line to get rid of the guard and allow his dauntless guy a one-die block against a mummy. The result is a pow, his gutter runner catches the ball, makes his dodges through the remaining tz's, makes his gfi's and the game is over!
GG and GL in the next round.”
