“Wow - what nice things to write about me!! ------->
The game was lots of fun and as Paul says, the first half was all me and I didn't really have to try that hard as his dorfs were falling like woodies. The second half my opponent played really well, using his kick off blitz result to tie up all my players in such a way that his copious guard cancelled out my ST advantage.
A draw was a fair result in the end - well played and good game!”
“Seeing my handicapped team get outbashed (Dwarves are uh, supposed to be tough though, aren't they???) wasn't surprising. I know how lucky Pete is from my one and only game against him that convinced me he was blessed, plus he's a bloody good coach, and that kinda makes a lotta luck for you as well.
Still, the 1st half was an absolutely travesty of a dicerape. Down to 5 players at the end of the half, Pete failed 1 block, and he was 1-0 up. Best I managed was a foul on the troll who didn't bother regenning (is there such a word?).
Feeling rather hard done by, I set my 9 vs 11 up for another pounding, but it seemed Pete used up all his cas/armour busting dice in the first half, and though he failed like, 2 blocks all game, in the 2nd half they were more pushbacks.
I *finally* got some luck, albeit with getting KOs, and a couple fo BH, and managed to scrape home the equaliser after pete's fast beasty could only pushback against my ball carrier.
With only 1 foul each, the expected (by me) carnage didn't occur - I've seen Pete play a few times and he always makes time for a foul, but in the 2nd half he was determined to get the ball and score.
I tried my best not to let him :)
It came down to turn 16, and I'd mispositioned by a square by opting to guard instead of possibly score, so the win was out, but I hoped Pete wouldn't pick up the ball in a TZ, hand off or pass, and score for a heartbreaker in the last turn. Up steps his Big Hand Beastman.
Uhhhh. Oops.
Oh, and "bugger."
Except he FAILS a 2+ (no rerolls) and the game ends 1-1.
The apo failed for me on the noob Dwarf who will shortly be experiencing the oblivion of retirement - I used apo on him without checking, knowing that Dwarves don't suffer too many injuries... ah well, normally anyway.
The deathroller was as much of a waste of time as per all the other times I wasted my time on it, and dodging was very hit n miss for me - two succeeded out of 4 or 5 tried, and one of those was a Longbeard.
The luck score suggests I was slightly luckier, but it's misrepresenting - in the first half Pete had 70%, I had 58%, but I tried so few things it had hardly anything to register from - I spent near enough all half picking players up, and in turn 7 I didn't even bother picking up my 5 remaining Dwarves only to get battered again - what was the point?
End of the day, a hard fought point, meaningless as I have no chance to finish all my games before the deadline, and no wins out of 2 anyway.
I hope you do well and go on to win Pete - you're a great sport (almost said foulin mofo then :S :P ) and one of Fumbbls' best coaches, going by stats and your win rate, plus what I've seen.
My Dwarves get battered again, but only missing 2, I got 40k (um, woot?) and actually managed a draw against a far stronger side with crap handicaps for me and against a better coach, so for this game I think mine was the moral victory :P
Cheers!
Paul/Meetgrinder
edit: Only player to skill up, my skill-less runner, got an aging niggle for his troubles. Whoopee. And after 2 games in this league, my team is officially weaker than when it started. My tradition of being shat on in tournaments continues! Hurrah!”
