phew.

Nuffle sure did not like the elves today. It started with them getting poor handicaps; extra training (meh) and smelling salts (ok but not what was needed vs my ladz)

Then Chaos received. It did not take long and the elves left the pitch one after another. Only one dead though and most KO which was not too shabby. Scoring with a 3 spp beast-rookie in turn 8 did not make matters all too easy really.

He received and was able to field 11 elves but by now all his reserves were gone and what was worse was that both his ag5 players were out (BH)

Still; in elf-arrogant style they scored their 2nd turn after a rather poor showing of the Chaos team. Then the slow grind to the endzone started.

During which another poor elf was niggled first (apo'd though) only to be followed by a death the turn after.

The most tense moment was when the ag5 star-CW dodged and tried to gfi once for a handoff to the other rookie 3 spp beast waiting.

The gfi failed but RR saved. I did not have the nerve to hand it off and decided to leave the ST4 CW hiding behind the broad (guarding) back of the hulking minotaur.

Then in maximum elf-contempt for statistics it all went pear-shaped for me. A zillion dodges and gfi's later he could 1d blitz my CW and got the pow with his RR. (which he REALLY should not have had by then)
An elf assisting the blitz caught the ball.

I saw no other option to block and push the elves around a bit to free up a blitz-route for my best beastman; the tackler with AG4; he dodged, blitzed the ballcarrier (killing him in the process) scooped up the ball and scored in one flashy blitz demonstrating to the world that the beasts shall inherit the earth after all.

Very well played by the elves whom really utterly were spat in the face by Nuffle with 3 deaths vs the (at the very least on paper!) better Chaos team.

Final - Cabalvision Athletic Cup 2006 (Orca series)

Handicaps in my favour - Smelling Salts & Extra Training

Somehow I made it through 3 rounds of non-elf teams with only 4 BH's against me, so it was only due time that I suffered in the final for previous round's luck. 3 RIPs and a SI were tough, especially as I did my best to play the guerilla warfare game that elves have to.

First Half
Used up my wizard early in the hope I could break a cage early in the 1st half, but prone bodies blocked my way. However, Affil Pebblesmooth pulled a blitz out the bag which saw off one chaos warrior ball carrier, allowing my ag5 to leap into multiple zones, pick it up and dodge out (with reroll) to relative safety... and I mean relative! Even stood a chance of scoring too, but one of many snake eyes prevented my ag5 lineman from making a simple pickup attempt, and thus denying a simple pass and catch for a TD. However, the high strength/AG CWs made it back down the field and the Chaos team went 0-1 up.

Second half

Many of my KOs came back for the second half. I threw caution to the wind hoping I would score and then set up for a swamp of the chaos back line to try and get the ball for a quick counter... almost went to plan.. I scored early... but the quick counter wasn't possible as the chaos team slogged their way back up the field. Instead the elves surrounded the chaos team liek angry wasps, stinging when they could. But all they did was delay the inevitable until the last... and then, some hugely lucky rolls saw me take down the ball carrier, and a blodging elf had the ball... he even had support round him. But it was not to be... The ag4 beastman made a good blitz, spilled the ball, picked it up and dodged and gfi into the endzone, promptly after killing the ball carrier... ouch.

Was a good challenging game which I shouldn't have got so close to taking to extra time in. But hey... was fun!... now... time to rebuild!
