“Their second match and the Sluggers stod face to face with the elves of the Loren forest. Aware of the nimble but fragile physique of these enigmatic creatures the coach approached Brother Reinprecht before the match with the holy knuckle dusters of St. Quentin, and spoke - "Wear these on thy fists; aim for their feeble chins and thine foe shall fall by thy glorious windmilling!"
With these words ringing in their ears, the humans lined up and prepared to halt the first elven offensive. The elves started their fancy ball dribbling, and formed a loose cage around their ball carrier a few yards from the LoS. Eager to get into close contact, the Sluggers pushed forward. Maximillian von Hetzer forchecked and blitzed through the weak defense in the oppositions right widezone, and managed to reach the ball carrier and tackling him to the ground as he tried to dodge away. The supporting lineman Brother Schaefer quickly picked up the ball and passed it to the blitzer, who consequently ran to the endzone and scored!
1 - 0 to the Sluggers!
At the next line up, disaster stroke for the elves, as their Treeman was brought down while trying to punsh a hole at the LoS. The humans quickly responded, surrounded the elves and screened the ball with blitzers and linemen. it was looking grim for the ancients when they managed to blitz through the screen and a lone lineelf picked up the ball and passed it to a forward positioned elf that dodge through the now thinned out defense and ran towards the endzone. The sigmarites tried blitzing the elf, but he managed to stay on his feet and run the distance!
1 - 1!
The following human offensive was relentless, and the elves were hard pressed to stall them as one of their players were badly hurt and as the minutes went more of them were sent to the K.O. booth. As the half was leading to an end, there were only three elves on the pitch and a knocked down treeman. Incredibly, the touchdown was averted when the Sluggers failed a last second block against an outnumbered elf!
At the beginning of the second half the elves put up a tremendous fight, although being vastly outnumbered and stranded with a rooted treeman. Thanks to their tenacity they prevented the humans from scoring more than once before the match was finaly over.
2 - 1 and a win for the Sigmarite Sluggers!
Post match: The large winnings allowed a drunken feast ending with the usual lynching of the local half-orc. The remaining gold were spent on a Big Guy to enforce the "slugging" part of the team.”
