“Last match of a tourney and with a chance to take first place, we had to play dirty.
Down to 10 players after a khemri battle, we had just enough money to freeboot two lineorcs. That made it 12 on 12, although we had no guards and only 2 ST4 players. In comparison, the Nightmare Band could field 6 ST4 players, 1 ST5 player, and 6 guards. The only way we were going to win was with dirty tactics, lots of dodging, and plenty of luck.
Oh, we also gave up 2 handicaps (boy I can't wait for LRB 5 to make that more fair)... one was virus, which was worthless because we don't have any nigglers, but the other was extra training so ozjesting gave his block/ tackle/ sure hands/ guard beastman +AG (a good choice obviously).
We lost the coin toss and decided to kick it short... and managed a "blitz!". We were able to surround the ball but the player selected to try and catch it failed his gfi on double 1's. The ball hit him in the back and bounced behind him, towards some other orcs. After some scrumming and dodging and a foul (only a stun on a chaos warrior though), we managed to send a get a player within scoring distance and pass him the ball. The chaos blitzer rolled double 1's on his gfi and we managed a score around turn 4.
The Nightmare Band ground downfield for the rest of the half and tied it up at the end. In the meantime another foul was attempted, resulting in a RIP on a ST4 block guard beastman (apoth worked), and ref didn't catch us.
So 1-1 at half, and we received. One of the ST4 beastmen was too close to the sidelines, so we frenzied him out to get a numbers advantage. To succeed at this we had to take a pushback instead of a pow, but it was worth it... we really needed numbers. A block also KO'd another beastman, and a foul KO'd a chaos warrior. Things were looking pretty decent. Of course, they were putting some damage on, and our ST4 thrower was SI... apoth failed. A couple of other guys were out too, so we scored when we could, which was after a lot of scrumming about and plenty more good luck.
Up 2-1 now (amazingly), and on defense... just have to prevent a score now. Managed another "blitz!" which helped position some players. A kick that almost went out of bounds thankfully stayed in, so the Nightmare Band had to travel quite a ways for a score. Long story short, a failed pass in T16 saved the win for Encephalopathies.
gg ozjesting, and good luck to you. Nuffle has smiled on my team this tourney for some reason: 3/1/0. I don't like playing dirty, but given my situation I felt I had to if I were to have a chance at winning- glad there was no permanent damage to your team! :)”
