And what an odd game it was. The first half in particular was riddled with errors. After a successful first turn (i.e. they didn't fail anything) the riders then proceeded to burn all their rerolls over subsequent turns just to stay upright. They failed their first dodge of the game as the first action in turn 2, failed dodges on turns 3, 6 & 7 as well as failing GFI's on turn 4 & 5. Luckily for us the CD's weren't doing much better. In an ironic twist after nearly bumbling the TD we managed to deny the CD's a chance to score on turn 8 by some semi-spectacular dodging and a pickup of the loose ball in two TZ's.
The second half wasn't too much better but the Adepts were very cooperative in hanging themselves. A failed block on the LOS started the rot which was compounded by a failed 1 die block in which a CD blocker injured himself and a turn later a hobgob did the same on a botched dodge. Thanks to a couple of cas we managed to inflict ourselves, we started turn 7 after the Adepts TD with numerical superiority! So a late TD to salvage the win was not so surprising in the finish.
So the riders start the season with an unexpected victory which we gratefully accept courtesy of some poor luck at crucial times from the (not so) Adepts.
Twhanlow votes.
Ended being a little hard to allocate with no-one really standing out.
3 Points. Roshi Speech. Caused two casualties but not much else - but then you don't expect much except blocking from a CD.
2 Points. Tetsugyu Concentration. The two bulls had similar games and we active in blocking and blitzing but luckily for me, without any real impact Concentration blitzed a little more than his countepart and got the TD so gets the vote.
1 Point. Unkan. Held the ball for most of the second half - made the hand-off that led to the TD and almost got in the way of scoring our second.
Honourable mention - Disciple Shariputra. For a troll he was bloody reliable ! Didn't miss a stupid roll or cause any turnovers on blocks and was just as effective as a CD.
Rough end of the stick with the casualties Flo, but I'll take it happily :)”
“A virus struck the camp for the second game in a row, and reduced the team to a paltry 12 men.
An exciting first half with much interesting rolling on both sides left the game wide open in the second half.
The adpets treid their reliable slwo march down the park, but dwindling numbers led to an early score and a chance for the Duskriders to take the game.
They didn't disapoint their many fans and scored on the buzzer to take a closely fought game.
Twhanloes
3pts: Duskwind Strongarm - Played a great game and was responsbile for both Dark Elf TDs
2pts: Demonette Nightshade - This freak of nature was a constant roadblock for the Adpets, one to watch out for.
1pt: Murkfull Lightbane II - One of a host of annyoing sidesteppers he made enough of a nuisance of himself to earn a point.
GG Longshanks, GL in the rest of the season :)”
