“What a wild game! I was trying for the amazing 2-1 victory, but things just didn't pan out in the second half.
The first half started with the elves receiving the ball, and they proceeded to try to out-bang the Beastmen. That actually didn't work so badly after a while, but the first turn, they actually had a turnover on their 2nd block (TRR, at that). I took advantage, knocked a few people over, clogged up the line, and put some beastmen in their backfield. They came back strong, knocking my boys around pretty good, even forced me to use my Apothocary. Eventually we got the ball and, having used our rerolls early on, we didn't do much with it in a positive sense. Around turn 5, one of the elves made some deft dodges, scooped up the ball from beside a beastman, dodged out and lofted it downfield to the other, wide-open catcher. Score: 0-1.
We recovered from their subsequent blitz rather well, as they swarmed in the left-hand side of the field, so my guys picked up the ball and ran right. We KO'd a couple guys and pushed forward, but as we closed in on Turn 8, we had to make a spectacular play, running forward, picking up the ball (never a sure thing with these blokes), and GFI just to hand the ball off (again, never a sure thing) to someone within range of a score. Everything worked to perfection, score at the half: 1-1.
Second half started with our guys getting the ball, their guys having tremendous luck breaking down the line of scrimmage with a pair of 1-die POW's. Their blodge blitzer comes around the end, takes out the ball-carrier, and picks it up himself. Our turn, we can't knock him down, so we surround him completely. He makes a brilliant pushback block from the back side, shoves the blitzer out of the crowd, and he only has to make one simple 2+ dodge to earn his trip to the endzone. Score after turn 2: 1-2.
We make a number of good plays, and a number of doofus plays, they do the same, and we get within 1 square of the endzone before they are able to knock the ball away from our man and lob it down to the empty area on their side of the pitch. We've put out just about half their team, mostly KO'd, and we've got the people to go pick it up, but after the first pickup fails, there's just not enough time to make it to the endzone. Final score: 1-2.
Great game, well played on both sides, and a lot of fun all around.”
