SWL Season 15: Premier Game 6

With game 5 being abandoned due to the absent Undead, das Festival des Elfs continued, this time against the WyvernTail Stingers.

Things started off well for Germany, with Otto von Bismarck killing Antioch Forestguard, and Braun running in a td. The Stingers replied through Wardancer, who effortlessly sliced through the German defence to score. Germany had enough time to get Al Rosenberg sent off for fouling before scoring with Carl Jung to lead 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw the Stingers score again through Wardancer, who was seemingly unstoppable, and more importantly, invincible. Though Otto managed to seriously injure Micah Half-Elven, Germany screwed up the return royally, with Braun fumbling a Manfred pass (frigging rookies!), and in a flash of Elf, Germany were down 2-3. Hoping to avoid a draw, nevermind a loss, the Vermin put on a set play to score a 2nd TD through Jung before the Elves really knew what had hit them, tying things up, with only seconds remaining. The final drive saw Gabriel Riverwynde trip, Matt Tinsen badly hurt Theseus Grovewarden, and a mad scramble from both teams for a decisive TD. Despite Jung's best efforts, it wasn't to be, the ball ending up in the hands of Karl Benz, who looked puzzled as the full time hooter blew. His popularity within the team has since plummeted as a result.

Twahnlow Votes
3 votes- #9 Manasseh Wardancer: Fast, agile, and seemingly invincible. Deserved MVP.

2 votes- #6 Gabriel Riverwynde: Passed well, made one mistake which didn't cost the Stingers in the end.

1 vote- #13 Skirmish Gladrunner: Skirmish by name, skirmish by nature. Always popping up when we weren't watching, always hidden when we were. More annoying than actually deadly, in a game dominated by the performances of two Elves, the last vote may as well go to him.

#11 Antioch Forestguard – Dead (RIP)
#12 Micah Half-Elven – Broken Ribs (MNG)
The WyvernTail 'oh-we-were-in-Premier-but-only-for-a-minute' Stingers returned to the Blood Bowl field in only their second match this season. Despite a trip up by Riverwynde late in the second half, the Stingers held the German Vermin to a tense draw.

I enjoyed this game. Symmetrical's coaching skills are awe inspiring, a pleasure to watch and the Skaven Rats are truely a team of champions. The Stingers played their usual game of Elvish flare, capitalizing any mistakes from the Vermin. Not that there were many of those. But the impressive plays belonged to the Germans. Especially the 3rd Vermin TD equalizer in which Otto von Bismark, that giant battleship of a Rat Ogre, frenzied and pushed his fellow philosophical Gutter Runner Carl Jung into scoring position. Pure class!

I think the undoing of the Vermin and denying them a victory they deserved was the let down in the blocking. The Stingers managed only 23 blocks to the Skaven 50, (which is usual) however the paper mache AV7 held on keeping the Elves on the field (which is unusual!) so they could get up and remain annoying. The Germans also tried 4 fouls (including the dreading turn 16 foul) which influence on the game was minimal.

Twahnlow votes
3 pts - #5 Manfred von Richthofen: Cool calm and collected he rushed for 23 and passed for 20 setting up all the big drives for the Vermin.

2pts - #4 Carl Jung: Faster and more agile than any Elf he scored well for the Germans.

1pts - #3 Matt Tinsen: Didn't know he was German, but man is he deadly. Those Razor Sharp Claws kept me holding my breath as this lead blitzer did his thing.
