“A very sunny day greeted the Gully Gang as they took to Mt Victorious for their clash with the Norsemen.
The Norsemen won the toss and received a shallow kick which was received by Monty Sion who quickly palmed it off to star catcher Blax Landric. The Dragons made some nice work on the Gang's line but was caught in a huge hole when the famed Norse "Frenzy Blitz" move came unstuck.
Landric soon found himself surrounded in a scrum on his own side of halfway with 4 Beastmen bearing down on him. The Gang had their quarry!
Or so it seemed, and with an incredible amount of skill, the Gangs defences were split in two and the irrepresible Landric stormed through and straight up the guts of the field and despite some cover defence from Handlebars and Starkers, Landric scored. 1-0 to the Dragons!
The Norse regrouped and kicked off. The Gang, insensed that their line had been crossed, charged the Dragon line but unbelievably underestimated the stamina of the mere linemen before them and they fell over in a heap.
Sensing panic in the crossed eyes of the Beastmen, the Dragons burst down the flank and managed to get within a whisker of the ball laying invitingly on the turf. The Gang recovered and cleared a path to the ball where Starkers picked it up, ran across field and then threw it - straight into the empty backfield of the Dragons!
Incensed, the Gang tore into the Dragons and Norse blood flew thick and fast as several players were carted from the field. Landric, who had picked up the ball was smashed by Billy and Starkers, looking to rectify his early poor judgement picked up the ball and scampered down field taunting the Norse with his cloven hoof. And then he tripped! And the ball spilled 30 yards from the Norse goal line.
And then it happened. The Greatest Play Ever. With time for only one last play, mere lineman Glenn Brookvald wrote himself into SWL history.
Brookvald dodged from the clutches of 3 Gang members. He ran to the ball, stretching himself to the limit. Picked up the ball from the clutches of the enraged Starkers.... turned and looked.... STRAIGHT INTO THE SUN AND HURLED THAT MOTHER OF A BALL WITH ALL HIS MIGHT!
The ball, spiralling perfectly floats in an arc over the scrum of Norsemen and Beastmen alike. The hoof of Harker tries to knock the ball off course, but fails....
The ball comes down to Norse thrower Blak Heeth who is in the clutches of Beastman Bloodbag.... and the crowd roars as Heeth CATCHES IT!
Meanwhile, down the flank, Norse thrower Monty Sion beats the clutches of Hornbag and extends to the limit himself to find himself in the end zone...
Heeth, now senses a miracle play. He dodges past Bloodbag and sprints to the endzone. He too has to stretch and risk dropping the ball but makes it to Sion who is now waiting for him.... and he tosses the ball now just the last few feet....
And Sion catches it as the crowd goes wild and the Dragons SCORE!!
And that ended the first half.... 2-0 Dragons.
The second half was less exciting as the Gang, under the threat of torture from their coach proceed to rend the Norseman limb from limb. Their only hope is to decimate their opponents - and they gave a good account of that....
And whilst the Gang brought it back to 2-1, they were never in the hunt as Landric scored his second, and the Dragons third to end the match 3-1.
A truly exciting game!

Well done Snake, it was a good game and I danced with the devil a fair bit in this one... but amazingly, you apparently had the better luck!
“Going into this game as underdogs the team were pretty pumped up. Team plan being to crush, maim and destroy!
For the first time all season my boys did just that, showing that they can match the best when it comes to beats.
Even though we went down 3-1 for our worst defeat our heads were held high as a freakishly amazing team play to seal the match was the main difference.
Congratulations to Clayinfinity for playing such a great game. They were the better team on the day.
Sitting near the bottom of the ladder after six rounds is not what I want so now is the time for my boys to pick up their game and show that they can match it with the best.
All game are finals now! ”
