“Orca Cola Cup Series -- Antipodal Regional Shield 09-06 Championship
My good friend Hamato and I both joined a couple OCCS tournies this month thinking maybe we d get to face each other. Well, we managed to fight past three Khemri teams between us to meet in the finals (check Dwarrengaor s last game to see a right proper Khemri pounding)!
I received to start and pushed down the center of the field with intent to try to drag out my score (a 2 turn score would leave too much time for the dwarfs).
A lucky block against anelf that Hamato rerolled into a double skull short circuited the dwarf defense and I was able to get the ball to a catcher and sit on the end line for a turn out of dwarf reach, scoring on turn 4.
I applied extremely high pressure D for the rest of the half and actually almost came up with a defensive TD.
In the second half I applied the same theory. I threw bodies at the ball with no concern for the safety of players. With a lot of elf nonesense and dodging through TZs and GFIs I was able to pop the ball. With some more elf chicanery I managed a score to go up 2-0 to pretty much seal the game.
Hamato pulled off a quick 2 turn score but was helpless to get to a well protected ball on defense.
Well played, Hamato, but the Jingoists are champs.
After bludgeoning my way past back-to-back Khemri teams (inlcuding a 10 CAS dismantling), I felt pretty good going up against some pansy elves.
The transition of defending against an AG 2 hitting team and an AG 4 prancing team proved too much for me, and with some artful dodging the Jingoists were able to foil most of my offensive drives.
In trying to stop his first drive, I made a bad call and rerolled a double skull/pow, because at least a pushback gave me more opportunities to take down elves in scoring position. The reroll result was double-skull, and my SF longbeard was killed! (Apothed successfully, but it cost me a slayer later.) Ending my turn there prevented me from applying pressure on his thrower. On his second drive, I made one mistake on my blitz and had to throw it on the wrong guy (or face a 2d his choice block), but against this guy one mistake is all it takes.
Injuries suffered through 2 games vs Khemri teams: 2 MNGs. Injuries in a single elf game: 2 deaths. ”
