XFL 'fling Final Match.

Pregame:

With 110k to spend, I had the option to purchase 5 ingredients (and wipe out the Packer's stock) or counter Deeproot. The concensus among everyone I asked was to go with the ingredients (even Montagne thought that's what I would do), but I couldn't bring myself to buy them and at the last minute negated the star.

Was that the right way to go? Seemed to me that the Packers were going to 3-die me with trees (w/block skill) and boot whatever didn't get pancaked by the mightyblow - not many rerolls needed (or usable) in that. And with all the diving tacklers on the field, it seemed that this game would be a slow grinding affair.

1st Half:

Packers win the toss, pick up the ball and boot a linefling into the BH box on turn 1. My str7 tree blitzes and knocks down the AFK_Eagle tree for the early tree advantage, but he stands right back up next turn - a turn which ends with the rip of a Packer on a failed dodge and with the Rizzle tree rooted. Hair Club follows up by inflicting 2 BH's and knocking down Eagle again for an early man/tree advantage. Both teams trade a casualty and then Malthor is TTM'd into 2 tz's, the ko box, and a turnover.

It's Hair Club's turn 4 and we now recover the ball and begin to work back towards the Packer's side of the pitch - 5 'flings to 4. Along the way, Pindo is SI'd with a -mv but avoids the niggle and lives to play another day! Eventually, Hairynap is in position to score on turn 8, but 1st Saruman_the_white makes 3 dodges, 2 gfi's, and rerolls into a pow to snuff out the easy play. Ball is thrown back into the middle of the pitch by the fans leaving a TTM as the only scoring option for the Hair Club. Stubfoot is launched 3 squares but can't stick the landing ending the half. 0-0.

2nd half:

Hair Club receives with an 8 to 4 'fling advantage and set up to remove a tree. Rizzle is knocked down and fouled w/4 assists but is only stunned. A diving tackle ko's another Packer to end their 1st turn. Turn 2 sees Eagle knocked down, surrounded, and fouled a BH - the apo is called into action but fails! Packers throw another foul the next turn but are caught and ejected leaving a tree and 2 flings to face 7 Club 'flings and 2 trees (one rooted).

The ball is moved onto the goalline and the Hair Club attempts to stall a few more turns by marking the Packers with dt's and getting between Rizzle and the ballcarrier with our own tree. Unfortunately, I don't see that I've set up a chainpush to get a fling onto the ball and Rizzle comes through with a blitz to put it into place. A push is rerolled into a pow and the ball is knocked free into the endzone. Now I'm scrambling to recover the ball and score! Fewest rolls to the ball is a dodge, gfi and pickup play - on which I burn the reroll on the gfi, but get lucky and pick up the ball for the score. 1-0.

One last chance to tie for the Packers with 2 turns to go. Kickoff lands within gfi grabs of a Packer and is picked up. Rizzle lays a blitz on a 'fling and crushes him but falls over on the gfi to get back into TTM position. Club trees remove one linefling and then remove the other on a blitz - leaving only the ballcarrier and Rizzle on the pitch and no chance at the scoring play. Game over.

Postgame:

This match was pure carnage!

Hair Club got lucky and gained the tree advantage early in the 1st half, put Packers into the cas. box with it, and that really slowed down the fouling game for them - only 5 boots. Number wise, we were also helped out by the niggle out and the greatest handicap. Still, by the end Montagne had inflicted 9 cas to my 6.

She also punished every little mistake I made. The chainpush to nearly spoil my score at the end is the best example. But, I also left some important 'flings exposed and every time they were abused and/or booted (i.e. - my kicker, my dp, my ag4 guy, Pindo, etc...).

So, was countering Deeproot the correct call? Rizzle was a terror when not rooted! I can't imagine how I would have had a chance with a str7, non-rooting blocker plowing into my guys. Guess we'll never know...

Thank you for the match, Montagne. Was an honor to play you/your team!
