As Tony quite rightly said... "That was a nail biter!" and it was. 1st half the elves wraght havok with the undead, dodging and generally getting in the way of ball pickups and out of the way of blocks with ease! Eventually the Dead Boys got a cage together and marched toward the endzone... the clock was ticking and in the dying few turns Ganash made a dash for the end zone... pushing himself that little too hard he fell and that was that.

2nd half the elves numbers had been dropped slightly but they still made a stirling run into the Dead Boys half... only to be covered by a whole undead team! However, not put off by this the elves managed to get the ball to the other side of the pitch where none of the Dead Boys could reach in time. 1-0...

As the next drive began the ref signaled that the game was held up for injury time. "Well if elves wernt so fragile there wouldnt need to be any injury time" cursed the Count. However he secretly knew it was Nuffle looking down and trying to give the elves a helping hand because of Lord Forghasts rather sly and generally un-noticed fouling.

The Dead Boys surged forward for once focusing on the idea of scoring... The very green Ghoul Slash managed to weave his way up the pitch with a loose cage round him. Last turn, with some positioning that made the Count look like he had actually thought about what he was doing Slash was free and running! He ran out of steam just short of the end zone but hte cheering fans roused his spirit and he went for it... TD.

Final Wistle and one of the most tense matches in the Dead Boys history.

I'm very pleased with this match. It was, in the literal meaning of the word, exemplary. It serves as a good example of what both types of teams need to do against each other.

Count Von Halseburg does a fine job of recounting the events. I'll just give my impressions: The main mistakes I made in this game was simply that I tried to apply elven tackle zones to shambling behemoths of unholy sinews bound together with sheer malevolent spite. Turns out, if you're applying a tackle zone on something, that something gets a free Block on you.

When I was smart, and played hands off, he got his one shot each turn off of a Blitz. What with the occasional players who actually took that hit and stayed on the field (amazingly, some people only go prone when slammed in the head by a walking cadaver ... some even stay standing!) it was a perfectly workable rate of attrition. Yes, my forces dwindled, but not alarmingly so.

When I was dumb, and said clever things to myself like "I know! I'll pin down the corners of the cage with TZs!" then I would have two or three players down in a single turn. Note, for instance, the simple mistake I make in Half One, Turn Three: Glorianus Skrang blitzes a zombie and gets a perfectly respectable pushback ... but I foolishly -follow-, instantly realize my mistake, go to back out and get tackled dodging out. Now watch in the Count's Turn 4 as he blows right through the hole that leaves, and makes a run that all-but-reaches the end-zone.

So, it's not halflings. Pro Elves don't have to fear throwing a heavy blitz, or a blocking barrage. But my new motto is pretty simple: "We fight when -WE- choose to fight, not when you would choose to have us fight."
