As always, I went through the opposing team after anything that could really hurt my team. I found nothing special; just strip ball and perhaps an AG 4 that I thought could improve his team, but no ST 4 with block or anyone with Mighty Blow or Guard. This meant that I could focus on my own playing.
The first round was superb. I cheered when I blitzed his AG 4-player into being badly hurt. I couldn't wish for a better result. If the player got seriously injured, then he would probably use his apothecary, but you don't use your precious apothecary the first round on someone who's badly hurt.
After my first expected touch down he killed one of my linemen in turn three. Damn, I was already short on people on the rooster, after the game with the dwarves, so I couldn't afford loosing a player. I had to trust on faith the remaining time of the game. Everytime he blocked my AG 4-blitzer, my Tackle-, Shadowing-blitzer I got really nervous.
But Nuffle smiled at me... and grinned at thark. I felt sorry when I killed his strip ball-dudett in the beginning of 2nd half, but that made me more certain that I would win the game. Now he only had 10 players left while I had one player benched.
What about the play? Well, just look at the stats. I had 58% luck, which meant that I didn't use up my re-rolls. I didn't care about him getting fast touch downs, because I knew that I could do one myself after 2-3 rounds and getting myself more SPP. Instead, I focused on forcing him do his fast touch downs with alot of difficult dice rolls. The more, the merrier. It succeded two time, when I broke off his moving path (one interception, that led to a touch down following the round with the same player).
One thing I have to remark was that he often put a player behind my line of scrimmage, so I couldn't dodge out with my players. It was annoying and was at times feeling helpless, but in one way that saved some re-rolls. And he often caged up his catcher, which made his game more predicable, while he forgot to protect his thrower. That resulted in one more touch down for me and one less for him.
Overall: I just loosed two touch downs by failed completions and I'm satisfied on how I used the tackle zones so he had to do complex things to block my players. Also I got really lucky on the injury rolls that my players suffered. My team rating was increased by 15 and I got a whopping 26 SPP!”
“The match began omniously as Victoryana penetrated armor on each of three first blocks, including the death of star blitzer Ilse (Watchastarinats coach was later seen strangling the apothecary). However, the amazons managed to get hold of themselves and performed well throughout the first half; there was a tense moment when the thrower fumbled the ball, only to have the next turn see successful dodge, pass, catch, handover catch and GFIs without as much as a reroll and the final Victoryana drive was succesfully held off, ending the half at a 1-1 tie. (Though to be frank, a fumbled pass from Victoryana at a critical juncture had a large impact on this.)
This was not to last, however, as the amazons wasted their first drive in the second half through what can only be described as generally idiotic play; this was followed by continual attemps to attack down pretty much the same avenue only to be succesfully countered again and again. Some blame can be laid on supposed star thrower Edith who fumbled endlessly--a single completion out of all those attempts in the game tell their clear tale--but in main the overwhelming victory for Victoryana was well deserved. The humans especially made good use of their speedy, blodging catchers and the never sufficiently accursed pass block.
As an interesting side note, the amazons ended each half with most of their rerolls remaining, having had decently good luck with their blocks but suffering endless turnovers on dodge-dodges and pass-passes.”
