#14 Gishlop One-Ear – Smashed Knee (NI)
FUMBBL DIV-X CUP FINAL! Tournament won by Trog on a D6 roll after scores were tied in overtime.
----------------------
The Prime won the toss and elected to receive. After some strong hitting they soon had the Terrors down a few players. The Prime knocked out the Terrors only Piling On player (a Chaos Dwarf) but then had their Dirty Player sent off when he fouled Hthark the unstoppable.

The Terrors used their apothecary to try and keep Hthark in the game but the apothecary failed!

The Prime pushed the ball deep down the right flank with a number of players. The Terrors were not worried as they went about setting up some strong defence, but it all fell apart when a Bull Centaur failed an easy dodge (Str 5 Break Tackle so 1+, failed first dodge, and reroll also) and then knocked himself out! This left the one Prime player free that was enough to break the defence.

The Prime then ran the ball to the corner and delayed, running down the clock. With not enough players on the pitch to stop a score, the Terrors played nasty, and pushed two players out of bounds.

Eventually, the Terrors had a chance to hit the ball carrier on a 4+ Dodge Blitz (one dice) and chose to push the Prime player into the endzone to concede a score rather than be hit for another round.

[The first part of the first half well and truly belonged to Trog as he took out 4 of my players in 4 turns. For me to fail the Dodge with a reroll, and then fail the Apothecary roll was really a lot of bad luck on my part. In the end I chose to concede the TD on his turn 7 so he would lose his turn 8 altogether. Although he had no rerolls left, it was either a walk to the end zone for a free score, or I could follow up with my Bull Centaur and get him pushed out of bounds. So I chose to not risk my player for an unlikely double skulls and take away a turn of his hitting me.]

In the second half, the Terrors started with the ball, and faced only 10 defenders as most were sleeping in the KO bin. The Terrors pushed slowly upfield forming a cage near the line of scrimmage, and slowly got an advantage as they knocked out a few Prime players.

As the Terrors pushed forward, they pushed the Chaos Warrior Prince Edirath out of bounds where he was unfortunately torn apart by eager autograph seekers.

The Prime were reduced to 5 players on the pitch by the end of regular time and were unable to stop the Terrors from scoring a reply.

[I had a lot of luck in the second half, with lots of blocks getting through armour and getting lots of KOs, though I did have a few guys with Mighty Blow]

In overtime the Terrors won the toss and elected to receive. They were still missing their Piling On Chaos Dwarf who had missed 4 kickoffs since getting knocked out!

The Terrors pushed the ball slowly upfield as they exchanged blows with the Prime. Although the Prime were outnumbered, they had more dangerous players on the pitch (Str 5 with Claw, Morg, and a Piling On RSC Beastman).

The Terrors got the ball over the line and were threatening to score, however, some bad blocking and then an unlucky dodge (a 1 of course!) put the Prime all over them.

The Terrors recovered the ball and covered all the defenders, and again looked like they might score soon as the ball was with a Bull Centaur skilled in dodging (he has Blodge). However, (with no rerolls left!) Morg made a (3+ dodge) and blitzed the ball carrier and knocked him over (getting a pow on one of two dice, the odds of this being 11/36, so combined, the chance of this play working was 4/6 x 11/36, or 11/54, or 20.4%!!!).

Both teams strugged to win possession of the ball and the game ended up being a closely fought draw at the end of overtime. The teams lined up for penalty goals and the Prime won the tournament (on a D6 roll).
-------------
A very closely contested match. Congrats to my opponent who played well.

We both had a mix of good and bad luck during the game. I was very unlucky to have my defence blown apart with the snake-eyes roll with my Bull Centaur and then to fail the apothecary roll on the match winning Hthark, just as my opponent was unlucky to get his Dirty Player sent off on his very first? foul.

My own Dirty Player (bought 1 game before the tourney started) was taken out very early with a block, and my Piling On Chaos Dwarf was out of the game by about the 4th turn not to return. This made it harder for me, but not impossible.

Likewise, my opponent could do little in the second half as I had lots of nice armour and KO rolls.

Ultimately, it came down to a couple of crucial rolls in the second half that probably decided the game. Using my last reroll (I had two in overtime) and then failing a 2+ dodge on the same turn with my Str 5 ball carrier was critical. I managed to recover the ball, and then Morg's lucky blitz pretty much sealed it.

However, my opponent played very well, and he had to make good plays to exploit the good/bad luck and he did that very well, so full credit to him.

Oh well, another FUMBBL Cup Final (though I had an easy run into this one as two of my opponents forfeited) drawn in overtime after losing the ball in unlikely circumstances and then losing the D6 roll at the end of the match!

What can I do if the dice are against me so ;P (I believe I should have won because I had the superior numbers in overtime, and had the ball, not because of superior coaching, my opponent was clearly very good and I think he would agree that we both played a good match).

#5 Prince Edirath – Dead (RIP)
#6 Ta'Chek – Smashed Hip (-MA)
The xcup final:

I was lucky to be one of the final competitors actually, but I humbly accepted the task of trying to beat a stronger CD team.

We both hired stars for the match. I hired Morg 'N' Thorg and Malthor hired Hthark the Unstoppable and Grashnak Blackhoof.

The match went back and forth, I scored late in the 1st half, fouling out Hthark in the process, seriously injuring him and Malthors apoth failed.

Much dodging was done by the chaos team, trying to stay away from all that mighty blow. His PO mighty blow blitzer was KO'd in the first half and never did return.

Second half he received and marched up the field, KO and injuring my players as he went. He scored in his turn 8, forcing OT.

In OT I had 10 guys back to his 11 with me kicking to him. I played stingy defense trying not to allow any score. The pivotal play came when Morg dodged out and blitzed his BC with Blodge for a 2 dice my choice. Luckily got a POW and the ball came out when the BC was SI'd MNG.

I put TZs on the ball as best I could, and prevented Malthor from picking up the ball.

In the end it was a draw.

The coin toss favored me, and so Malthors bad coin-flipping luck continues...

Good game Malthor.
