#9 Jubilee – Broken Ribs (MNG) #3 Black Widow – Dead (RIP) #12 Crystal – Dead (RIP)
“A close and bloody game! But much fun was had by both coaches.
The first half was all amazon, after Webbe advanced the count a little too far allowing him to be repeatedly 2d blocked and then DP fouled off the pitch. The rest of the half progressed almost entirely to the benefit of the Superheroines allowing them to steal the ball and make a T8 TD. It was not without cost, however, and the zons started the second half with no apo and a blitzer and guard catcher missing. Thankfully, the Count did not wake up from his KO either!
The second half started with a brutal RIPfoul on the human's ogre and an ejection for the zon's DP! An easy cage for the heroines resulted in a turn 3 TD to go 2-0 ahead. In hindsight the zons could have stalled for a turn or two, but they did not anticipate Zara being sent off and the Count returning! There was a glimmer of hope for the Humourless Humans... With a 10 v 9 player advantage they scooped up an easy 3 turn TD to leave them 3 turns to break the zon offense, steal the ball and draw level. This they acomplished with some nice rolls, but mainly due to severe incompetence on the part of the amazon coach. However, the last turn of the half resulted in a couple of human KOs to make OT a not-so-obvious call for the humans.
OT started with the zons now up 9 v 8 in players, but with no RRs, whilst the humans had 3. And the Count. A RIPfouled catcher soon brought the numbers level, and when the Count stunned the ball carrier things looked bleak. The ladies managed to sneak the ball away in a diagonal sprint to clear themselves for a turn 6 TD to go 3-2 up. However, with only 7 players against 10 the humans were easily able to level the score at 3-3, racking up another RIP, BH and KO on the way!
A thoroughly enjoyable game and a fair result in a draw.
The Superheroines won both the final and the semi on coin tosses and now feel suitably sheepish!”
