“Well, some 50,000 lads and lasses came down to "family day" at the Chain Gang's home ground. The opening ceremony was a wonderful display of the joys of extortion. There were over priced paintings on display, not to mention the mandatory semi famous people on the back of over priced cars. The only departure from the norm was the bars on the windows of the cars in the parade, but we digress.
The fans had come for fun, the fans had come for glory, and seeing as the game started a blizzard, the fans had better have come in a jumper.
The fraudsters punted the ball long and strong to the Sithi, and it ended some 2 squares from the half way line - an inauspichious start - and the bashing began! Some very fortunate gang members managed to escape the malconted wood elves but ended on their bums no less. Some unfortunate decision making by the woodies saw the ball dropped at the end of the first turn and the dark elves, through some clever caging and blocking, got it back and secured it.
For the next 6 turns the game would better have been described as a scratching match than a bloodbowl game, lots of hitting, but no real damage and the ball certainly wasnt going anywhere. Then, with the clock counting down the Chain gang made a run for it, the blocks opened a gap and the pass was successful, all that stood between the elves and their first score was for the player to skilfully depart from the company of his opponent and he failed to do so!
It appeared as if the woodies might capitalise on this mistake, but it was not to be. As if to mock the assembed masses who had come to see some skill and flair, the ensuing attempt at a score was again thwarted and, as if on cue the Chain Gangs strong man, Solomon Lew fell over while running to help a team mate and severaly damaged his head, resulting in some ongoing frailty and, it seems, a spot on the sidelines for the Gangs next game.
After the half the teams resumed and the Gang had the early progress, making a cage on the wing and running Alan Bond down field. A suicidal attempt by Intri to get in the proper position saw him pushed into the crowd and severly dazed, it is not expected he will be back for his next game.
Then the break was made, the ball handed off to Alan Bond who ran to the corner with his friend William Anthony Lloyd to protect him. On his way to make a screen he came across the hapless Kira'athu and hit him hard and fast! So badly knocked down that on his way past the Dark Elf even signaled to the bench that something might be amiss. It turns out that, upon inspection he had been killed! While the medics were hauling him off the hoots and blood thirsty calls of the crowd the screen was set to protect Mr Bond and hopefully open the scoring.
While a valiant effort was made to prevent the score from registering, it was for nought, with the ensuing block pushing him over the line to score for the Fraudsters!
With the teams down to 9 a side it was always going to be a big bask for the Sithi to score, and when the ball carrier was isolated and knocked down the Chain Gang managed to pick up the ball and protect the carrier, scoring in the last turn.
A very good game for the Chain Gang managing to skim 80,000 gold from the takings. The display of brute force combined with skill was again rewarded and some were heard to say in the post match celebrations that they would be back next week.
The only tinge of sadness that crossed the minds of the well and truly sloshed Dark Elf supporters was the remeberance of the poor dead woodie.
“The second round saw the Sithi meet their bretheren again, but this time it wasnt the prestine High Elves, but the nefarious Dark Elves.
Both teams entered what they knew would be an important game. The Sithi had recently come from a draw, the Dark Elves were 1 man down. The Sithi were first to recive the kick and quickly tried to press their man advantage. It looked good early for the Sithi but a crucial fumble on a pass reception by Initri saw the ball left ready for the Dark Elves to pounce upon, and pounce they did. Even with 1 man down, the Dark Elves were able to hold onto the ball early, and then proceed to remove the man advantage of the Sithi the tough armor of the Dark Elves keeping them from harm. For the most part the nimble feet of the Sithi were able to save them, but through desperate attempts to get the ball carrier the Sithi were unceremoniously dumped into the crowd. Luckily for the Sithi though their tenactiy was able to prevent the Dark Elves from scoring, a late fumble, caused by a trip of one of the Dark Elves (some witnesses swear a tree root from within the earth raised itself to entangle the Dark Elfs foot) allowed the Sithi to swoop and recover the ball, a long bomb attempt at scoring proving fruitless. It allowed the Dark Elves 1 last opportunity at recovering the ball, and though scoring would be unlikely, the Dark Elves took the opportunity to inflict some casualties upon the Sithi, a menacing block on Kira'athu say him removed from the pitch ready to be returned to mother earth ...
The second half saw the teams start with no more man advantage to the sithi, both teams entering the feild with only 9 men. the Dark Elves recieved the kick, and through good blocking were able to press and early advantage. With a few Sithi left stunned, the dark elves found the going easy. Perhaps it was fate, perhaps the workings of the Dark Elf gods, but the Sithi were unable to prevent the Dark Elves walking over for their first score, attempts to prevent the drive failed time and again.
Now that they would recieve the kick the Sithi felt sure they would be able to exert some pressure, and early on it looked prmoising, a charge down the northern wing saw the Sithi within 1 turn of scoring, only to have fate once again conspire against them. The Dark Elves were able to cause the ball to come lose and pick it up, a long mid field pass saw defense quickly turn into attack. Once again the Sithi tried desperately to stop the Dark Elves scoring, but fate was not to be on their side, the Dark Elves moving with an eerie grace, seemingly ignoring the presence of the Sithi. The Dark Elves scored once again, and it left no time in the game for the Sithi to return, they would walk from the field a beaten side, the seemingly early intervention of mother earth having left them in the second half.
Perhaps the Sithi would need to return to forests to replenish their link with mother earth before entering the next game ...”
