#5 Darkmoon BlackKnife V – Dead (RIP) #11 Glarethreat Menace – Dead (RIP)
“Game 3 of Season XVII
An undeserved draw at great cost. We were gifted two TD's in the first half thanks to a couple of fumbled passes by Bob Gibolobo in the backfield. Despite some close attention from the Duke we nevertheless were able to retrieve the ball under pressure and make it to the line. Bob deserves our thanks as without him we would have well & truly been out of contention.
In the second half Carlton put the heat on and had us under pressure from the get go. While we scrambled well, players left the pitch regularly and we couldn't quite get it together from constant harrowing by the Duke, Braybrook and Mike the Spike in particular. All that tackle and DT had to tell in the end and it did. We did our best to prevent it but an equalising score was inevitable after being reduced to six players in the second half. The worst of it of course being the loss of two valuable players leaving the lineup decidely light on skills for our remaining matches.
Twahnlows.
3 Points. The Duke, who else. A one man team - where would Carlton be without him? He successfully blitzed the ball carrier at least twice that I can remember, both from situations where the nimblest elf would have struggled to get to, played catcher and scorer and RIP'd us up. The others were a very distant second to the legend.
2 Points. Eglander Braybrook. Responsible for the other RIP and a constant nuisance.
1 Point. Jake Fluttery. ST4 tacklers - an elfs bane.
A draw that will hopefully help keep us out of relegation trouble but with some tough matches coming up I fear the loss of those experienced players will be telling against us in the run home.
