SWL Season XVII - Southside Stone Smashers Conference League - Round 7

The final round of the season, and we needed at least a draw to sneak through to first place. Armed with almost 70 points of additional team rating, and also a wizard, we thought we were in with a chance (even if it was against chaos dwarves).

The first half saw us receive, and battle for quite some time to break a hole in a very tough defence. Eventually, frustration gave way, and we took the risk of a handoff, followed by a 3+ RR dodge, followed by 2 GFIs to get Spine Klubba through the dwarf line. Some cunning blocking saw a chance for a 2d hit (no tackle) after 5 GFIs, but Clara was unable to take the ball carrier down, and it came down to a 1d block (2+) with no reroll available for Spine Klubba to make her way over the line with time to spare.

With only 2 turns remaining in the first half, and a very deep kick, the Regulars found themselves unable to make a touchdown, so the half ended 1-0.

A little luck with the KO rolls saw 2 or 2 players return to the field, so we were still able to field 11 players for the second half. A cunning push saw us able to get a 1d hit on the ball carrier (no block/dodge), and the ball fell to the ground in around turn 3. The Regulars were able to secure the ball again, but not for long as a fireball landed in the midst of 3 dwarves and the poor hobgoblin with the ball. This gave an opening for Loony Tossa to secure the ball. After that, there wasn't too much to stop the second touchdown (being the generous player that she is, Loony Tossa handed the ball over to Da Flinga who stumbled across the line in turn 6.

At this point, the girls started their pre-emptive celebrations, resulting in a half hearted attempt at defence (they were too busy patting each other on the backs), and the game ended with a surprised Arabelle having the ball unceremoniously dumped in her hands, and being told to run like she had never run before. With that touchdown, the game came to an end with a score of 2-1, and a return to Premier League for this team of rather confused greenskins.

------------------- Twahnlow Votes -------------------

It was very tough to award the twahnlows this match, basically, the key to the team was the very strong dwarf line, which managed to put themselves in the way time after time making for a very tough defence - if I could, i'd spread the points out evenly between the whole lot of them for their mighty fine teamwork. But, you have to award them somewhere, so here goes...

3 pts - #2 Timmy
The most successful of the blockers, Timmy suceeded in removing two of the girls from the pitch (one KO, one BH). The blocking was so evenly spread that this is a pretty close call, and it was more the way he kept getting in the way that really earns him these votes.

2 pts - #6 Oi
Dodge and stand firm is a mighty fine combination. Although he didn't do that much in the way of blocking, he did survive quite a bit that was thrown his way, and made quite a roadblock even when he didn't have a whole lot of support.

1 pt - #14 Arabelle II
Not a bad game for the poor girl. She managed to find her way into some precarious situations, and always got out of them (not quite sure how). As well as scoring the consolation touchdown, Arabelle was a threat in the backfield and kept that little bit of extra pressure on the ball when it was needed.

I really needed decent handicaps for this match and they weren't forthcoming. Morley's, Drugs or some such would have been nice, but it wasn't to be.

I played well at the start, eventually slightly overcommitting, the girls made their move against me and I couldn't pull the luck i needed. And after that i was chasing a two turner....never easy with Chaos Dwarfs.

The second half saw me start to get on top with numbers slightly, but it was all too late. Laviak did well, pulling in for the bash, which much have been very difficult. When the Doom and Gloom wore off, second half, it was really all over.

Twahnlows:

3 pts - #9 Spine Klubba
THE move of the game. Broke the Regular's line and their hearts.

2 pts - #8 Loony Tossa
She knows how to grab a ball and hold on tight.......

1 pt - #13 Back Breaka
12 blocks: no CAS, but lots of action. Never looked scared of the dorfs. This is one tough lady.
