“This match easily goes down as one of the most tense, drawn-out, go-either-way matches I've ever played! Both sides went huge, with Varag and Morg arriving for the orcs and Ramtut escorting the Count for the necro. Gate security were tipped to a possible drug scandal involving Morg however, so he was not allowed onto the pitch. And somebody must've put some extra iron into the puppychow!
Necro take the ball, first-turn BH to a MB orc blitzer via foul, and the game is on. My fouls were pretty worthless afterwards, rolling a string of 1-1 and 2-2 on armor breaks. Fortunately, only one ejection. A long pass by the Count to an open wolf who races in for the score, but the orcs were following too closely to risk stalling. Score 1-0, necro, 4 turns to go.
Orcs get the ball, and the necro are too intent upon trying to bash and foul (still to no avail) and are completely out of position to stop the orcs from racing around the edge for the tying score at halftime, 1-1.
Second half the orcs grab the ball, and it's a serious scrum with neither side giving ground much. But the necro armor just wasn't holding up today, and soon we had simply too few players to possibly stop him. That didn't stop Ramtut or Naginata from flexing their muscles, with str5 and str6 breaktackle showing the idiot wolves what it means to dodge through tz's. For a second it looked like we might actually force overtime, as the ball was on the sideline surrounded by the Count, Ramtut and my str5 golem.
Of course, when the orc blitzer rolls a string of 6's to snatch up the ball in traffic, dodge out, long touchdown pass to Varag, and the orcs take a 2-1 lead with but a single turn remaining. A full compliment of necro vs only 8 orcs, but SF orcs on the LOS mean a OTS attempt with mv8 wolf is virtually an impossibility.
But Nuffle was enjoying the game tremendously, and decided he wanted it to continue, so decided to extend time an extra turn. The orcs, so intent on stopping a OTS chainpush attempt, were completely out of position to stop my wolf with Count escort from racing around the corner to paydirt as time expired. Score 2-2, going to overtime!
Orcs are receiving the ball, his ko's have woken up, should be smooth sailing, right? Right up until his thrower bobbles the ball...some clever chainpushing, and my wolf is ready to race out and snatch the ball up for the winning score! Pity he didn't learn the dodging lesson from the break tacklers, but an early double-skulls from the orcs (no rerolls either side at this time) and I had another shot. Race out...and drop the ball. He can't blitz my wolf away from the ball, so I'm still in control, right?
Right up until his agi3 thrower dodges, picks up ball in tz, dodges again, passes long pass over the head of a defending zombie to his blitzer in tz, who dodges away and races for paydirt! But he was too worried looking over his shoulder at the wolf on his tail that he tripped over a loose piece of sod, stumbling at the goalline. My wolf instantly became a thrower instead of blitzer, passing the ball to the Count with all the potential orc tacklers covered in tz's. Count begins to race down the sideline, zombies and wolves trying desperately to cover his advance. One more set of skulls by the orcs, and we're able to race into the endzone. Score 3-2 necro, a single turn of OT remaining!
But Nuffle had seen enough, no bonus time was forthcoming, and the WM manage to pull off the upset win over the heavily favored orcs. From down and out to winning and advancing to the next round...this game was a total nerve-wracker from the get-go! Especially playing virtually the entire OT with no rerolls on either side.
There were glimpses of brilliance by both sides, shows of utter stupidity by both (probably more by me), a fair tad of luck spread evenly...and to think it's only the 2nd round of the qualifiers! This much drama should be reserved only for the ultimate final itself!”
